That is looking really promising, very nice screenshots.

That would give a nice starting point  But it might need to look at the weather too? For example dust effect when it's actively raining in California. Some places would have really strong seasonal variation - e.g. very wet summers, and dusty dry winters. Sometimes wetness and really cold temperatures might not go well either (unless it's sudden and the water has not frosted/iced up yet). Wetness and really hot temperatures can happen I guess, e.g. start of an afternoon storm might be in 45 deg C plus in some parts of the world.

Such situation could be taken care of since I'm using a 10x10km resolution climate map. And climates are all about long time averages and slow changes.
I was thinking of a slider mode that was relative to defaults - For a purely hypothetical future implementation of dry parched vegetation after a lack of rain

It would probably suffice to use the dust-cover property: /environment/surface/dust-cover-factor
]The sun and moon position are used to calculate tides (Just for the release notice (potentially), the source of the position is the accurate ephemeris code which is used generally right? Was the tidal calculation already there - what other things was it used for?) .

Yes I used the ephemeris code which provides the viewer longitude, the suns longitude and the moons longitude which gives you about anything you need for tides.
Something that would be useful is a non-interactable slider showing the phase of the moon, so people can tweak it by changing the day of the month. The environment moonlight changes with the phase, and the tidal forces are larger during new moon or full moon (although the tides themselves are complicated depending on location and can be delayed).

This is like asking a for slider to change the time without changing the time. if you want both low tide and high tide visible I'd use a mid summer day where the day-light times are long.

By using the sun and moon longitude you get extra high tides (which aren't implemented as extra high since we don't know the depth of that area, just as extra long) and extra low tides (which are implemented).

He's been asking for a non-interactable slider - which basically is an indicator

Ah yes, that would be something for canvas so you can display the position of the sun and moon relative to earth at the current viewer position.

right, as long as the corresponding information is available in the form of properties, such an "indicator" could be easily implemented by using the canvas - e.g. to render/animate a handful of raster images as needed.

Thorsten implemented a number of displays for the shuttle, an indicator to show just the position of earth/moon relative to earth would seem comparatively straightforward.
