3 sim comparison - rain.
I was asked to do a weather comparison but as FSX cant load Metar, I chose a Stormy scenario on each sim.
No Paid or additional addons on ether sim. Sittings used are only from the basic out the box sim in each case. Freeware choppers used. test location. EGMH.
First up is FligtGear, 6:00 FSX, 10.24 XP11

Interesting, I didn't see FGFS lighting, but from memory I like it better. Rain drops on windscreen a real plus. The amount of precipitation in FGFS I thought superior.
I like FSX attempt at water reflection on the tarmac although the implementation wasn't perfect.

FG is the only one where the standing water is accumulative.

That's an interesting comparison. I was just wondering, as I cannot see it on the video, does the chopper in FG show external rain splashes? It's amazing the impact that Thorsten's shader work with the rain splashes on the glass has on simulation immersion.

it does show it but i find the colour of paint sometimes makes it difficult to see.

Right, looking at it again I just noticed one drop showing on the tail. The drop size matches the those on the runway, but it does seem relatively too big.

I've been in an aircraft while raining, none look right, but FG's does look the closest.

It's a tough problem and hard to get reference material for different geometries. Especially for helicopters...

FG 2016 used to have splash ringlets on the pavement/runway with rain, I notice it's either much reduced or not brought forward with 2018

Just tested on 2018.3 - works fine here.

It's hard to see in this shot but they are present - only seem to show when the runway becomes a bit wet after a few minutes though - I imagine that is intended.

OK it's highly dependent upon intensity of the rain, and mine was set for -RA showers, had to pretty much look at the ground at ant ankle levels.

Actually it's dependent on the amount of water on the ground - which you can also set with the environment condition menu.
