I'll have to drive it again and find out. Roughly 15~20 US miles? I also have a mod for the Via du Widowmaker road near Bolzano, the plan was to make a driveable Dolomite/Austrian Alps route between Italy and LOWI, but somewhere between development of FG 3.0 and 2016.1, the UFO got it's coding buggered and it's not easy to place objects with the UFO anymore.

Last time I used it, by using the object browser/loader ( the "l" key.) that opened a new file browser window in the FG window, if you attempted to load a different model, using "l" it would crash FG, It did so whether FG was full screen or windowed.

The key is actually disabled for me.

It's a security issue - Nasal is no longer allowed to load files from arbitrary directories (has some potential for misuse). So you need to copy the models you want to place into the FG models folder beforehand and then place from there.

I suppose it would have been too much to ask to at least mention the changes made to the UFO's model selection function GUI in the help menu?

It was asked about at least twice in the forum previously, not one response. It is/was a big boon to use when loading custom models from model folders located in non default disk locations. For the obvious reason of not needing to close fgfs to write in a new model path in advanced/properties.

The remote possibility of misuse is completely overshadowed by the ease by which you can select a different folder to add scenery objects from. I suppose this change is not something that can be reverted by replacing the new UFO with an older version, i.e. it's been hard coded into the fgfs.exe.

I don't think anyone thought of the ufo specifically. It's a general change affecting what various FG subsystems may or may not do which just happens to affect the ufo. Feel free to add the documentation.

(So no, reverting to an older ufo version won't change that, only reverting to an older FG version will).

Well my preferences would be to have it reverted, if just for my own use. So I guess I will install FG2.8.0 for the interim and use it as the scenery modder.

Or if someone can identify in the 40K plus lines of code in the fgfs.exe where the change is made and what was replaced and if it can be reverted without causing more problems, I have a hex editor.

I frankly don't think people will re-open a gaping security hole for your convenience... And I also don't think you can edit out a complex patch with a hex editor.

Why don't you get adjusted to a new workflow?

and that will bring a whole host of other problems (eg: terrasync has moved, NOAA has changed their METAR URLs, etc)...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

First I want to apologize to Ausdkunst for the hijack. More bike stuff. Marc Kraus's Lake of Konstance Hangar has a new little Honda NSF 100 cc club racer, I'm sweeping through the climb and upper turns of the Mount Panorama TT course in South Bathurst, Australia, on the rev limiter all the way.
