Thanks fmg, i think these lights are from your EDDI work, as an inactive airport nowadays having an object+xml file do the work well, but for most of active big airports, these lights are elevated and the approach lightning declared on WED maybe, it sits just on the grass, if i want to have these lights elevated ontop of a light tower like in your foto i need to do like you do but looks diferent from far at night.

Hi Catalanoic,

since I only can run the old scenery here EDDI is still illuminated (he was active when it was announced). So there is no strong need for me to make my approach-lighting fully function-able to be seen from afar now. As you can see in this picture it is overlaid by the generic FG lighting, wich is a good mix for looking from afar or near.

The generic lights float a bit above the terrain, so they are not realistic in another way. If I may be able to run the new scenery in some unknown future I will have to solve this, but until then I have other projects.

Regards

f-)

Attempt to make short scenic views video with DHC-6...... Contains landing in the ocean after several attempts for landing with this plane...... I don't know it still, so do not mad at me for the poor tochdown.
Hope you'll enjoy:

During severe issues with navigation on FlightGear I will not create any type of content until I buy myself new pc. That might be in years from now.

I upgraded RAM in my PC and made test trip EGLL - LXGB - LPMA - LXGB (flyover) - LZIB :
Few miles from LXGB :

Good day Funchal :

Bye bye Funchal :

Gibraltar, maintaining cruise level 600 at M2.06

Race with F15 jockey near Italy :

That Old Girl is pretty fast, she can do M2.28 at FL600, but with fuel burn rate 24t/hour

Narrow central Italy with observable Earth's curvature from FL600 :

With 16GB of RAM, there is possible to set decent visibility limit. On that trip RAM highest watermark was only 11 GB...

How much performance improvement apart from increased memory before swapping (e.g. allows higher vegetation, visibility, etc) did you notice?

Nothing to swap, probably all was in the RAM. Bare LOD range was on 240 km, Visibility limit in Adv. weather 250 km. Now, I'm testing LOD range on 480km, RAM consumption rises to 12 GB, but without additional visual effect.

EDIT :
Moon rises still under horizon :

Sorry - I meant, as compared to your previous RAM capacity?

On 8 GB RAM I had FG configured for lower visibility limit - bare LOD 120 km, visibility limit 120 km and swap was not very much, but was here. For extremly long flight over land (VNKT-EGLL etc.) I reduced visibility limit to 60 km and LOD range to 60 km for avoid memory overflow. All swaps are easy observable on my flight logs at fgtracker, all groundspeed drops without FL change was caused by swap.

Sure, you need to increase the visibility to see that.

Moon rises still under horizon :

I'm not sure it does actually - you don't see the horizon position in your pic, you see the upper edge of the haze layer - dependent on weather, that can be quite a bit higher (in fine weather I think as much as 3 km) than the hard horizon.

OK, but I think, Moon should rise from the haze.
About LOD range 480 km - ofcourse You are right, GUI visibility slider has limit 250 km. Today, I want make another tests with visibility limit configured via property browser.

For me, best setup is bare LOD 270 km, AW visibility limit 250 km, ground-haze-factor dependent on altitude calculated by formula f=alt/10000+1. When I use that factor fixed to 1, there is strange grid on the ocean surface.
