What/Where did you fly today? - Part 3

Postby Johan G » Mon Jun 06, 2016 4:23 pm

Because the previous topic, What/where did you fly today? - Part 2, had grown to An-225 size, we will start from scratch in a fresh topic.

Rules
Based on comments from various users, we've created a small set of rules, in order to make this an even nicer collection of FlightGear.

  • Place no more than 10 screenshots in one post. If you'd like to post a complete series of more than 10 shots please create an album topic.
  • If you have several nearly identical screenshots (eg. a single aircraft/location from a certain point of view), try to pick the best of nearly identical screenshots. No-one is interested in five variants of the same image.
  • To please those with slower internet connections, embedded images should be no larger than 1280x1024 pixels. You may link to larger resolutions of course. If you use the following code, clicking your image will open the large version.
    Code: Select all

  • Try to compress your images to reduce their file size. JPG is a much friendlier format than PNG for online images, but even PNG files can be greatly reduced in size by compressing them when saving. Images at the maximum allowed resolution can look fine at (much) less than 0.5 Mb.
  • Avoid linking to non-public files (like Facebook images), as not everyone can see those.
  • Only screenshots and videos showing FlightGear are accepted.
  • Do not quote images; quote the description instead. Also see our quoting guidelines.
  • Media posted here may be selected to be featured on our Google+ and Facebook pages.

What to do when someone does not adhere to these rules?
Please report a post by clicking the ! icon next it, the moderators will then look at it.

How can I contribute to this collection?
Making and sharing screenshots is described in this topic. Videos uploaded to YouTube can be embedded by copying the ID (bold part of this link: youtube.com/watch?v=V1gLFJ8X7BE) and placing it like the following code example:
Code: Select all

Looking forward to your amazing shots!

I'd add another suggestion to the rules above - using an image hosting website that supports HTTPS, such as Imgur, HTTPSImage or ImgSafe. (Since the forum is protected by TLS now, some browsers block "mixed content", i.e. HTTP images/scripts inside an HTTPS-protected page, making them impossible to see.)

That is a very good point! That would avoid a lot of unnecessary posts about non-visible images.

I never had any problems with non-HTTPS images, and my server sadly doesn't support HTTPS at the moment. So this will be my last images for some time.

Continuing the flight from yesterday, I departed in Anglesey/RAF Valley (EGOV) and made a sightseeing trip around the Welsh mountains. I've been there in real life three times, and I was actually able to navigate without map.

Above the plane is the summit of Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales. It is often hidden by clouds, but not today! The lake is Llyn Cwellyn. The Welsh Highland Railway follows this valley, but it's not contained in the map data.

Image

It was probably a good day for gliding, and sometimes I was tempted to shut down the engines and turn into the thermals!

Image

Finally touching down at Caernarfon Airport (EGCK).

F-15C of the 48th Fighter Wing (EGUL based), USAF:

Mission: A pre dawn departure to investigate a suspicious private Cessna.

Image
Circling back towards Lakenheath; beginning dive.

Baking towards the runway over the forest.

Image
Touchdown! I have yet to do a good landing... on the threshold; I normally touchdown halfway down the runway, bounce, and hit about 500 feet from the end!

Exploring the Scenery around our next default airport
Image

It's a pretty interesting area around Rio, but in my opinion it needs some work on the landclass acurracy (esp. coastlines) and elevation data.
A mile of road will take you a mile, but a mile of runway will take you everywhere.

The forum just ate my post about ILA 2016 and $%17ted it out empty! I hate this crap! Who ever made this genious decision to kill post, that needed longer than 10 minutes to compose, (s)he's got a good friend now!

Because of my state of mind, I'll NOT recompose it all, but just link the pics. Maybe you can play a guessing game, what is shown...

Here are some pics of the ILA Airshow, that took place last weekend at EDDB (Berlin, Germany):
