Hi all,
Two weeks ago, I had no idea FlightGear FS even existed. ;o
Today, I managed to get the Robinson R22 followed by a few other helicopters in the air and back down (edit: some got back down but not the R22!) relatively gently (auto pedals off) with keyboard and mouse. I do have to provide credit to XP11 (Linux) and XP10 (Android) with its flight school helicopter (S-76) to allow marked progress of late.
It was most fascinating to try the different helicopters in fgfs (the R44 is *much* more stable than its smaller sibling at the moment!) and I also discovered just a tiny bit of some of the Chinook's unique (strange?) features. After a couple of attempts then some quick
reading to figure out why I was struggling to gain real altitude, I got it to 16,000 feet, which coincided with some amazing sunset light. The scene surprised me and had I known it was to occur, I would have tweaked my graphics settings up for the screenshots!
I'm planning to buy a Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS (just the joystick for now) as well as XP11, but I'm pretty sure I'll still continue to put time into FlightGear - it's simply exceeded expectations and I know there's more to discover.
Location: Cooper Flying Service, Missouri. (aircraft scenery default)
