27" iMac (late 2013) with Core i5 3.4 GHz, 16 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775 2048 MB. The video card and driver are supposed to support OpenGL 4.1, and testing in OpenGL Extensions Viewer confirms that, but the FG Help/About dialog says it's using OpenGL 2.1.

@someguy,

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775 2048 MB.

You would think that would easily be compatible.

Something I have done in the past with a c++ program I was developing, by simply changing the GLSL version designation in the shader program I could get it to display correctly or incorrectly. I think in my case though the card I had didn't support the higher version designation but worked when the designations was something it was capable of handling. I don't think any of my shader program was very advanced so it worked out. Your case may not be so lucky and it is not the same problem. I would think it should be backwards compatible as in understanding #version 120

but the FG Help/About dialog says it's using OpenGL 2.1.

I think most of the shader programs are using #version 120

Have you looked at the log and searched for shader errors? That might help clue you into what it doesn't like.

Out of curiosity, what are you getting in internal view? Are you getting interior shadows and other effects?

I do get interior shadows, e.g., on the new C172P, but surfaces are not nearly as realistic as some screenies I see here. I have never seen Thorsten's birds, not even as rectangles. I should be getting much better frame rates with my GTX card than 12 fps. The latest random veggies use more resources than before, but look no different. I assume something is wrong deep inside FG, but few Macs have graphics as good as mine so everyone else shrugs and figures it's just their wimpy Macs. It's my understanding that no one is testing Mac releases these days, nor has much interest in fixing their bugs. Business as usual...

I've fixed an issue with the bird-shader as reported by glslangValidator.
Could you check if this fixes the birds for you after updating FGData?

Please post the bug report # so someone can forward it to the mailing list. I realize email is so unforgiving these days, but I'm sure one of the tweenies will hop on it!

Come one, is that all you do is condescend when posting things to this forum? I have seriously lost all interest in trying to help individuals like you!!! Think about that for a minute and I'm not even the one getting slated here by your comments.
Now I know why James refuses to come here... can't blame him at all.

ORLY?? you are aware that james turner develops on a MAC, right? he has been providing the most code changes and contributions in the last year... i think you've misunderstood something, somewhere, somehow...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Took the Borussia Dortmund 737-800 out for a spin... just enough fuel for a takeoff. Wanted to try ''max-power-least-load'' flying. So I had so much fun manually flying the 737 with Soitanen's revised FDM (he just pushed a new change that makes it amazingly easy... and realistically easy... to fly manually with mouse!) that I ran out of fuel, luckily in range of 25R at Barcelona. Until the highly developed urban buildings came into view and fps dropped. I smashed up the 737.

Well that was the longest I had ever flown the F-100D is in that flight. Next time I will adjust lag for formation flying.
