I'm gonna have an Elitebook soon (this week !) with 4 core i7 CPU and Intel HD 4000 GPU plus an external nVidia Quadro GPU - so I should be finally able to run HDR, too ! :D In any case I'll (hopefully) finally get better frame rates (I'd be happy with 10 FPS with ALS and 20-30 without, let's see).

Are you saying, you are volunteering to look into using FlightGear/HDR without PUI ?? :-)

In the meantime, Phi should work as a GUI replacement I suppose ?

I'd be pretty surprised if you don't get better than 10 with ALS. I have a laptop I7, GeForce RTX 2070 and I am getting 45 with ALS, everything on max detail, OSM Buildings and my very heavy custom Kansas scenery. I just checked out of curiosity and I only got 50 to 55 without ALS.

Here are some HDR shots of the PA-18 on flying near Mt. Everest.

This is a tease for the rest of the links.

Every view had a photo scenery picture postcard look and feel to it. These are only a few of the captures I took.

The video is the entire flight to the base of Everest from Tenzing-Hillary Airport, Lukla VNLK.
The video is only about 75% converted at the time of this posting. Give it a few more minutes from posting time for it to be available.

wow, thanks for sharing these - they really look fantastic !!

Please do consider uploading these to the wiki so that they can be reused on the wiki (HDR portal, newsletter, changelog etc) - and if you have fgdata access, please do consider adding these as splash screen candidates, potentially under a dedicated HDR sub-folder !

Those look amazing wlbragg!

I noticed you don't have any buildings or trees enabled. There is no GUI, but you can use graphics presets to increase the quality of the scenery:

Code: Select all
--graphics-preset=ultra-quality

I noticed you don't have any buildings or trees enabled

I'm not sure why but HDR crashes with either...
Code: Select all
--graphics-preset=high-quality
--graphics-preset=ultra-quality

It will start with the default (using no flag) or
Code: Select all
--graphics-preset=minimal-quality

Do you know what the default setting is?
I assume OSM buildings and objects don't render in HDR mode.

I thought this was an interesting rendering.

Also, a really good example of reflections.

I made it into the clouds. This is a short video showing the clouds in the HDR pipeline.

OSM buildings and objects should render properly in HDR, random buildings as well. Are you on 'next' latest commit or latest nightly?

Very nice videos by the way! They look great.

Random buildings work in HDR now? I must try the latest next when I get a chance (I've been working on the new textures for so long now - and also must thanks Eagle for help with shaders (still a few roof mapping tweaks we're looking to fix though)). In the meantime...

Icecode, I'm not sure this affects FlightGear HDR but I post it anyhow:

the same issue is shared between so many simulators because they all use the same few papers (most notably Eric Bruneton's and Sebastien Hillaire's) as a basis for their implementation, and turns the reference these papers used for some of their parameters had a significant error.

I have talked on Discord with the OP of that thread. Turns out we are doing similar things to take into account the strong wavelength dependency of the atmosphere. I use a different approach from them but the results should be very similar.
