DHC-6 Takeoff out of CYXP

Behind the Scenes // Notes:

I was in a discussion of creating videos for FlightGear the other day by using the replay function. By extension, this would work for any other simulator, or game with a replay function too I would suppose.

Find me on Twitch - danten66 - to see the full process - major boring by the way.

The long and the short, the few things to take a note of if you try this at home:

It's a long process

This style is meant to be a highlight - not a documentary.

I would record a part of the replay, change camera angles, rewind a bit (or more,) and record another pass - rinse, and repeat.

Like in real film making, record more than what you think you need - you will NEVER have enough footage. (I fell prey to this a couple of times in my edit. )

I have since learned that I can disable the warning messages on the replay - though I did use a simple mask to hide the one in the very last scene.

It is also rumored that I can save the FlightGear recording - though there may be some limitations there. I'll look into this on the next one which should mean if I am missing a shot - I can go back to it.

If you miss an approach - you can edit it out :)

Editing in general takes time - this 2 min video took about 3 hours. There is a lot I'd like to go touch up. Sometimes you need to just let it go and work on the next one.

Lastly - you don't see any shots inside the cockpit of this video though you will in future ones. Some planes in FlightGear have some limitations to the panels and such on the replays. The person I was discussing this with can't record his interior shots on the replay, so I chose to stick with this limitation.

Thanks, nice editing, banjo okay. There is some work in this.

Your link went to some login page, with this get directly to the video:

Where can one disable the warning messages? And what editing software was used?
Nuff said! Could someone moderate this somewhere else please?

I think this illustrates nicely what can be done with some good angles and editing.

Like it.

I wonder about the scenery though - there's pack ice with drifting ice shards on the hills beyond the airport ??? Looks odd...

if you are talking about the flight tape, it is no rumor... F10 menu -> File -> Save flight tape...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."
