New Sounds for 777

Postby Lolification » Sat May 16, 2020 10:15 am

Is it possible for anyone to make a sound mod on the 777 using http://www.allflightmods.com/fs-sounds/ ... soundpack/
I know that FL2070 was working on a mod for the 777 but I think he stopped working on it.

Legoboyvdlp is currently working on new sounds for the 777. I didn't look deep into the sound pack you provided, but it has to be GPL-compliant to be able to use it in the 777. Lego's sounds definitely are. You can already try his mod out by checking out his sound-branch at our SVN-repo. It still has some issues because of YAsim issues, but as soon as it does what we want it will be applied to the official 777.

Hi,
Yes, I am; I'm using a sound pack with permission kindly granted from Sky High sounds and I believe it is in fact even better quality than that one you linked as it has directional sounds and more detailed pitch / volume curves :)

Yes, I have stopped working on it. Indeed, I stopped working on sounds for FlightGear entirely because of the legal constraints and the amount of controversy that was stirred up from my attempts to improve the game.
All my sound work can be found here: http://www.thejabberwocky.net/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=416

You can already test the new sounds by downloading a snapshot of the 'Sounds' folder via the link I provided, renaming the Sounds folder to 777 and adding its parent folder as an aircraft folder in the add-ons tab in the launcher ;-) Once it is completely finished it will be committed to FGAddon too. Legoboyvdlp did a splendid job!

@legoboyvdlp can you do a write up about the source and the tools?

The only tools were Audacity, FMOD, Notepad++ :)

The sounds came from a pack by SkyHighSounds. This I was granted permission to use by the author by private contact.

The formats are fairly consistent between FlightGear and P3D, so, using the P3D SDK I was able to translate them fairly accurately. It was a matter of, convert stereo to mono, and add the sound curves (volume / pitch) to a .xml file, which then controls the sound .xml through the properties.

I also discovered FMOD, thanks to Timi, this helped quite a bit with tuning the sound curves to match Yasim's limitations.

That program is so complicated that I think the best would be to point users to youtube tutorials...
