Hi,

i want to film flightgears landscape and use it in an commerical app. It will be a flight in Arizona. 1. Is this legal? 2. is it possible?

Hi Robin,

To help understand the concepts, it might be worth researching the licensing issues with screenshots, as the same legal issues apply and you'll find a lot more information about this on the web. A good reference, for example, are the rules for Wikipedia:


Well in this case it is the reverse - commercial to open source. But the legality of open source to commercial follows the same rules. So if you follow the licensing requirements, it should be ok, otherwise not. For the use of any external material within a commercial product, it would be best to consult with lawyers to ensure licensing compliance and to stay on the right side of copyright law. Only lawyers can give a proper legal opinion, taking into account global and/or local laws.
