Mac problems with flightgear 3.4

Postby I LUV FG » Fri Apr 10, 2015 9:40 pm

So I recently downloaded FG 3.4... I had played 3.0 a lot but quit flightgear because of the lack of inteior esign in some of my favorite airplanes. So, as I said, I downloaded the new 3.4 version of FG. Now I would just like to point out that on the download page, it said something for mac users and how there is another 'pipeline' and you may want to wait or something. Here's the thing: when ever I play FG and I'm up in the sky, suddenly, the game freezes and crashes. EVERY TIME! No matter what plane (helicopters seem to work though) it just crashes!! Can someone tell me how to fix this and what 'pipeline' the download page was talking about?? >:( thank you for posting if you do. BTW I'm on a 13 inch Macbook Air, early 2014 running OS X Yosemite

Could you post some logs? It is a good start point to investigate, which download page are you referring?

I'm referring to this page: http://www.flightgear.org/download/
I haven't been on FlightGear in at least 3 months.
(btw I stopped playing FlightGear for the time because of these issues.)

Check on your RAM when you fly long routes with route manager in 3.4. This is not a Mac specific problem.

Yes. Flightgear 3.4 has a problem with increasing memory usage when flying long routes using route manager. It has been fixed in 3.5 and will be released in 3.6. The problem is worse with more waypoints.

You can monitor memory usage with Activity Monitor on Mac OS. If you want to fly longer route manager routes, try and reduce the number of waypoints and reduce memory usage generally, e.g by quitting applications you don't need and perhaps by reducing the Level of Detail (Bare) setting in Flightgear.

If Flightgear crashes early in a flight or when not using route manager, or you don't see increasing memory prior to it crashing, it's another problem.
