Solved!
I have installed the addon via "File" -> "User Preferences" -> [TAB] "Add-ons" -> [BUTTON] "Install Add-on from File..." and choise the file "Blender-AC3D-master.zip".
Blender copied all files under "/home/{user}/.config/blender/2.79/scripts/addons/Blender-AC3D-master/io_scene_ac3d/", but the addon was not listed.
I have moved the files to "/home/{user}/.config/blender/2.79/scripts/addons/io_scene_ac3d/" and now it works.
This mean that Blender also create the directory "Blender-AC3D-master" inside the path, but that doesn't work.

And of today blender 2.8 is release.
I think we need to focus on porting fg2blender[1] to blender 2.8

In some weeks, we should have a script available. Scott has already gotten much of the importer working in 2.80 and I will shortly start on the exporter.

Good evening, (ou Bonsoir, c'est comme vous voulez :) )

I think that the fg2blender, from the PAF team (a french group of super geeks) is far beyond the other majic79 blender ac script [1]. But i must admit that i didn't try the fg2blender addon. What a shame (read on).

However, the fg2blender script (according to what i have read from the source code), has way more features.
For example, exporting animation to xml file from within Blender sounds so awesome. That feature seems unbelievable.

I really think that both efforts, once merged, would be a killer ac plugin.

(Please, a hit to these developers of these two ac exporter script. Work togheter and take a look to the x-plane exporter script [2] as an inspiration of what others have. That's a gold mine of what a true FGFS ac exporter script should be able to do. Please, try to be better than that X-plane, or at least use all FGFS (xml & co) features in that exporter script) . Just telling, after sawing these last commit's of these scripts, their last commit's and their docs, it feels like the developers think that their script is finished. Don't take it bad. (Look to what a community, working together, is able to achieve ! The language barrier shouldn't be a reason).

(And please 2.0, take a look to all these awesome aircraft's the PAF team made. I really think that something bad happen as their aircraft's didn't made the official FG repo. Feels like FGFS devs never look to the "concurrent", what a bad way.

Anyway, i really want to thanks these developers, as i'm using stuff made by others ;)

I don't recommend using the old Majic script you link to. I fixed tons of bugs and added many features to it. Some of the fixed got accepted, but he stopped responding, so its now hosted here: https://github.com/NikolaiVChr/Blender-AC3D

I personally will not use fg2blender even if was bug free (last time I tried it, it had plenty) and supported all xml features (which it doesn't). I dont need a script to rewrite my xml files or rearrange/delete my comments.
Also prefer xml over that gui, plus it don't have english instruction.

@dvanmosselbeen,

I've abandoned my version of these AC3D scripts in favor of collaborating with Nikolai toward a single supported version.
I've got plenty of ideas, including support for animation, but limited time so I anticipate that it will evolve slowly.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your reply and thanks for continuing to work together on the AC exporter script :)

I think the Blender wiki page [1] should be updated with this info as it still point to the old AC exporter script. Users like me read the wiki and are then using the old script :)

BTW, if you need a French2English translator, hit me ;)

@Necolatis
Export to xml is useful for building cockpits, aircraft interior in combination of a asset manager that can import instruments from $FGROOT/Aircraft/Instruments-3d.
And animate things like flaps, rudder, doors, etc

Hi guys :)
Just a side note.

* I have updated the Blender wiki page and removed links pointing to the old unmaintained AC3D scripts. Also added a link on that wiki page pointing to the dedicated Blender AC3D import and export wiki page. Removed that link pointing to this forum thread as it shouldn't be on that page (see next point).

* On the Blender AC3D import and export wiki page i have added a line pointing to this forum thread.

Kind regards,

Thank you for cleaning that up. It took awhile for me to understand we had multiple choices and what they all did and didn't do. Still don't have it memorized so it is nice to have a reference source.

Speaking of choices, fg2blender, is this a different type of ac import/export script for Blender?

Even with its flaws, if it is related and has any useful features that can be used currently or eventually adapted to the maintained script, should it be included in the same wiki as another option of even just as a reference?

i may have misunderstood but my understanding is that fg2blender is for using blender for scenery work... not craft models... ???

"Why not?" said Gurder.

A few users where still using the old unmaintained Blender AC script, myself included :) So i wanted to remove that line of confusion.

You're completely right ! I added some info about FG2Blender on the http://wiki.flightgear.org/Blender_AC3D ... and_export. I don't have more info right now but we have a starting point :)

I support your request at 100%

That animation features could be an option, use it or not (check / uncheck option during export). So no worries about overwriting files etc.
(But i'm speaking of things i don't implement, so that may be ignored)

No, the script is targeted to aircraft modeling and importing (not exporting apparently) (FlightGear) xml animation with the Blender animation system (keyframe) and bones system. The script is also able to import / export to ac. But after a quick tests, the file size is close to 15% bigger than Nikolai's work. So i suspect there's a lot of junk in the final ac file.

I just have installed the script and got it working with Blender 2.79b. Not sure if everything work as expected yet.

Found some forum topics (on the PAF forum) with some video too so far. Even some FG (French) wiki page.

* http://equipe-flightgear.forumactif.com ... pt-blender
* http://equipe-flightgear.forumactif.com ... fg2blender
* http://equipe-flightgear.forumactif.com ... fg2blender

(THIS IS IN NO WAY AN ATTEMPT TO BYPASS NIKOLAI'S WORK. IT'S JUST SOME ATTEMPT TO LOOK AT WHAT WE COULD GET BACK, EVENTUALLY MERGE STUFF... If FG2BLENDER IS WORTH OF IT OF COURSE.
ANYWAY FG2BLENDER IS ABANDONEWARE, KEEP THAT IN MIND. NIKOLAI'S WORK IS CURRENT AND UP TO DATE.)
