Head-UP: FGrun translations

Postby fredb » Sat Jan 22, 2011 10:05 am

Hi All,

the next FG release is imminent now. It is time to check if the FGrun translation for your language is OK and complete. Pay attention to overlapping or truncated text as well as untranslated sentence. It is also possible to submit new translations if your language use the latin alphabet.

If you are under Windows, you may want to download the nightly build at
http://flightgear.simpits.org:8080/job/ ... _2.2.0.exe
to check.

Thank you for your cooperation

Fred, expect a small Dutch translation update this evening.

For those that don't know how to start translating, all you need to do is download your language's .po file from http://fgrun.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc ... /fgrun/po/ and edit it.

What if the language you want to translate does not have a corresponding .po file?
Look for "B-BIRD" "N127KY" or "AVA0004" -that's me.

I have a small question with regards to translations...My Windows is in French but I would rather have my FGRun menu in English, is there a way to disable the translator???

You can just copy&renam&edit one of the other files. All language files contain the (original) English sentences/words; so it's easy to translate.

Got it. Thank you!

Do I have to do anything special if I am translating it to Japanese, or any other language that does not use alphabets?

You are welcome to prepare a translation in a language that doesn't use latin characters but you'll have to wait I find a way to make fgrun aware of UTF-8 and display fonts that support your language.

I know I'm reviving a very old subject but it is pertinent.

In older versions of FlightGear if you wanted the program to run in English instead of your system language, all you had to do was to delete the "Locale" folder in the Bin directory. I did this and I'm still getting the French menu. Is there anything new that I must do?
