Location Selection Error

Postby NewsDude » Tue Sep 06, 2022 2:06 am

I just downloaded FlightGear onto my new laptop (Macbook Pro 2022). There seems to be an issue when selecting a starting location. I can only select a runway. I can't select a gate or parking spot to start from. Is anyone else having this issue? I have posted a screenshot below of what I am seeing when I try to select a starting location.

Also, if this is in the wrong category, I do apologize!

Okay, gotcha! I figured a subcategory would be more appropriate than posting it in the General Support page. Thanks for the tip!

Generally you're right, but when no subcategory fits, it's better to post in the top-level category than in a random subcategory ! :) But don't mind, I made the same mistakes when I was new here !

this is because your system has not yet downloaded the additional information file(s) and installed them so it knows where the parking slots are located... be sure that Automatic Scenery Download is enabled in the launcher and give your system some time to download the necessary files...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I already had ASD enabled. I just had the settings the same from how they were on my old laptop (MacBook Pro, 2017). I have a screenshot of the settings page below.

At the very right of the "Downloads" bar, there's a "Show more" button - click that, it'll show you where it downloads any scenery (and aircraft) to. Then, open that path in your file browser, and check if the file TerraSync/Airports/B/I/K/BIKF.groundnet.xml exists. If not, open FG, spawn on a runway, and just let it sit for half an hour or so … after that you should have parkings. IF not, we need your fgfs.log file.

Okay, quick update!

I decided to completely remove FlightGear from my laptop, and do a clean installation. After doing that, it worked.

sounds like the other scenery mirror was selected so the Airports_archive.tgz file could be properly downloaded and extracted so the data was available for all the parking positions...
