Missing parking positions from all airports except default

Postby TheEagle » Sat Jul 03, 2021 8:08 pm

This is really weird, as this problem appeared out of nowhere yesterday. None of the airports have any parking positions, except BIKF and PHNL, which are included in FGData. I have this problem with version 2020.3.6. Any fixes ?

UPDATE: I just tested with 2020.3.8 and 2020.4.0 (I have them installed all three, but each version has its own FG_HOME and FG_DATA folder) - the parkings for these versions ARE GONE TOO    :x :?

Update 2: I've got my parkings back now - see this thread's last post for more information !

how did you install them?
do you have "Automatic scenery downloads" enabled in each of them?
the parking positions are defined in the groundnets for each airport... if you don't have them, you won't have parking... the AI will also likely not be parked or taxi to/from the runway properly, either...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

The size of the installer hit a maximum. Therefor some files are taken out of it.
But this is no problem, because you will receive it via terrasync.
So make sure terrasync is active and start FGFS. Then sit there for around 10 or 15 minutes.
FG will download all known parking positions from terrasync.
Next time you start FG, you will have parking positions in the launcher.

The ground network, which includes the parking positions, has to be created for each airport.

Due to the vast number of airports available the majority have no groundnet, there are several people working on them but I don't think we will ever have a groundnet for every airport.
If you really want a particular groundnet you can create it yourself, instructions are here in the Ground networks section: https://wiki.flightgear.org/AI_Traffic

The easiest way to see what airports have groundnets is to look here https://terrasync.github.io/main/
Those with a green back ground are working groundnets, red backgrounds may work but could have errors that stop them working.

@wkitty: I didn't install them at all, I simply downloaded them as AppImages :), and FGDATA as a zip, both from the official FG repo on SourceForge. And yes, I have Automatic scenery download enabled in al three of them.

@gooneybird I know EDDF and LFPO have groundnets with parkings all right, because until yesterday I could start on parkings at these airports, and since yesterday I can't !

What do you mean with "start FG" - start the Launcher or click the "Fly" button in the launcher ?

the launcher doesn't download scenery stuffs... you have to be in the sim with scenery downloads enabled for that to happen... so yes, click the fly button...

Also maybe give this a look: https://github.com/mherweg/Airports

It adds more parking positions, groundnets, and jetways to thousands of airports, and you don't have to wait hours for it to download (unless your internet is really terrible).
Get my custom FG liveries here: https://flightgearhusky.altervista.org/

I'm off at college so I've stopped making liveries (for the time being, at least), but I'm continuing to ensure compatibility for the ones I've already published.

don't use those... IIRC, they were converted and there's a huge number of bugs with them... eg: all parking named the same

the adhoc AI/groundnet guys are always working on fixing and cleaning up groundnets and getting them added to FG...

Well, wkitty's been here almost nine times as long as I have (if my math is right), so probably listen to him over me :)

@WoodSTokk : very sadly  it didn't help (sitting on a rwy at EDDF for half an hour did NOT bring back the parking positions there )

I use one common TerraSync dir for all three versions I have installed - could that be a problem ?

I now removed the whole TerraSync folder and let FG redownload all the EDDF scenery - even that didn't help ?!?!?!? :?

please look in your Terrasync directory and see if you have an Airports directory... it should be filled with single letter/number directories... inside those should be more single letter/number directories... and inside that 2nd level of letter/number directories will be another set of single letter/number directories as well as three-letter ICAO/IATA airport code xml files containing thresholds, procedures, groundnets, tower locations, and possibly more...

eg:
Code: Select all
Airports
|-- 0
|   |-- 0
|   |   |-- C
|   |   |-- F
|   |   |-- H
|   |   |-- I
|   |   |-- K
|   |   |-- M
|   |   |-- N
|   |   |-- T
|   |   |-- U
|   |   |-- V
|   |   --- X
|   |-- 1
|   |   |-- F
|   |   |-- I
|   |   |-- K
|   |   |-- L
|   |   |-- M
|   |   |-- N
|   |   |-- O
|   |   |-- P
|   |   --- T
