Forum rules
In order to help you, we need to know a lot of information. Make sure to include answers to at least the following questions in your initial post.

- what OS (Windows Xp/Vista, Mac etc.) are you running?
- what FlightGear version do you use?
- what graphics card do you have?
- does the problem occur with any aircraft, at any airport?
- where did you download your aircraft/scenery from?
- is there any output printed to the console (black window)?
- copy&paste your commandline (tick the "Show commandline box on the last page of FGRun or the "Others" section on the Mac launcher).

Please report any bugs not specific to an aircraft on the issue tracker.
To run FlightGear on old computers with bad OpenGL support, please take a look at this wiki article.

Note: If you did not get a reponse, even after 7 days, you may want to check out the FlightGear mailing lists to ask your question there.

Debug -> Browse internal properties

I have noticed a few planes have Nav sound off so I have been switching them on using instruments/nav/volume and changing 'none' to 1 using set at bottom of page. I double click on this which should alter it on the planes, in this case the Cirrus SR22, which hasn't got a functioning radio. Because I have Surfer Tim's radio stack I can still set the Nav radio. However when I exit FG the Nav setting reverts to none. Should this happen.

Yes - properties aren't persistent unless declared so.

So how do they get declared so. Surely every real plane has to have a working Nav/Radio

Note that not all real aircraft do have a radio, so the current way - set per aircraft - is Good as is.

I fail to see how that applies to the Pterosaur. Or the Space Shuttle. Or the escape glider. Or the parachutist. FG clearly models more than planes.

Off you go again, you really can't help yourself with the sarcasm.

I think the Cirrus 22 being a modern plane would have a radio.

Sorry, you clearly have no idea what sarcasm is...
