- what OS (Windows Xp/Vista, Mac etc.) are you running?
- what FlightGear version do you use?
- what graphics card do you have?
- does the problem occur with any aircraft, at any airport?
- where did you download your aircraft/scenery from?
- is there any output printed to the console (black window)?
- copy&paste your commandline (tick the "Show commandline box on the last page of FGRun or the "Others" section on the Mac launcher).

Please report any bugs not specific to an aircraft on the issue tracker.
To run FlightGear on old computers with bad OpenGL support, please take a look at this wiki article.

How to set startup options?

Postby MarisaG » Tue Oct 31, 2017 6:18 am

How do I set the default joystick and starting location in the Ubuntu version? Everytime I start Flightgear it uses the wrong joystick, and I have to manually choose the proper stick. And I start in a different airport than where I left off. Any way to change that?

Are you using a/the GUI launcher, or just the command line ?

In general, I'd suggest to check out the following docs:

The joystick configuration files have <name> tags that FlightGear matches to the name that the device reports through the USB interface. The name a device reports can vary with hardware and software revisions, and sometimes even with driver versions.

You can add another <name> tag to the configuration file. You can find the name your joystick reports by looking at the joystick dialog and the joystick configuration files resides in the data/input/joystics directory in your FlightGear installation.

I have to manually choose the proper stick.

Welcome to Flightgear! This is what we do!

And I start in a different airport than where I left off. Any way to change that?

Code: Select all
fgfs --launcher
start there.

I see you're new to the forum, welcome! and I also see you play Go, I did that too!

Good luck!

Everytime I start Flightgear it uses the wrong joystick

To avoid that I force it.

I make a copy of my joystick_model.xml file from Imput/Joysticks and then paste it in to Imput/Joysticks/Default where there is a file called default.xml I rename it as defaultbak.xml and then rename my joystick_model.xml to default.xml

Imput/Joysticks/Default/default.xml
