Flightgear 2017.3.1 Won't Work!

Postby FighterAce » Sun Oct 08, 2017 3:40 pm

Dear FlightGear community,

Ever since I have updated to FG 2017.3.1 I have experienced a bug where when I try to switch aircraft, and then switch my location, the airport finder page does not open. See my screenshot for further details. Does anybody have any idea why this might be happening? (I am running FlightGear on a MacBook Air) Thanks!,

-FighterAce

Hi FighterAce,

Something is weird on your screenshot, both "Aircraft" and "Location" seem checked at the same time. :? Is this the bug?

Does the Airport "Location" work if you try it before "Aircraft" at Qt opening?

Can you copy-paste your command line ? It might help.
Top Left, Tools > View command-line.
(I hope it's already available with FG 2017.3.1, it should be, one of your coloured dots on Mac?)

Both are checked because I just selected a new aircraft, and then pressed "Location" once. If I press it a second time, the bar beside "Aircraft" will disappear and the bar beside "Location" will stay, but the Location page will still not open. Yes, it does work if I try opening it before "Aircraft", but I thought it would be a good idea to mention it, and would like to know why this bug is occurring and how to fix it. Any ideas?

Of course it is a good idea to mention what you notice, with as many details as you can.
I cannot reproduce this double checking, I always have one bar at a time checked when clicking on another tab (the first one disappears with a fraction of a second delay). It is abnormal.
But in FG 2017.4.0 (git version) we have another temporary bug (waiting to be fixed), which makes that we cannot come back twice on "Aircraft". This is not the same symptom as your issue (though I don't know if they are related).

I hope that a developer will read your description and identify the bug. Someone reported your post to the developers mailing list.

Sorry that I can't, I only hope that my questions will help.

FWIW: i posted this to james (aka zakalawe) and the dev list this morning when i first read it... i should have posted that i had done that but i didn't... i think my post to the list was within an hour of the OP's post...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

"Qt" (often called by this name) is the Launcher, the FG launcher Graphic user interface which you are using.
In fact and originally, "Qt" is an application which enables to build Graphic User Interfaces.

The Qt launcher is not the FlightGear simulator, it is just a convenient way to send FG the parameters that you wish, then launch FG. Otherwise, you should have to send these parameters from a command line (in a console like the DOS one).

@FighterAce: have you seen a post from James, Zakalawe? i haven't... i suspect that he's the one, since he's the launcher developer and Qt expert, that will need to look into this... i will prod the developers' mailing list again...

This one above has been solved by James Turner on 9 oct 2017. FighterAce's bug may have been cured at the same time, but the issue is that he cannot have access to the fix (currently only on git, FG 2017.4.0). Unless a patch would be published for FG 2017.3 (FG 2017.3.2 ?).
It was connected to compatibility with Qt versions.
James Turner is the best (if not the only one) who can give a response.
