Hi Laurence,

It should be in c:\Program Files\FlightGear\bin\win32\

Try clicking on My Computer, followed by C:. You may have to change a setting to display the contents of the directory.

Hi Laurence and stuart,

There was the same topic name in viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3036, but no one didn't reply...

Unfortunately, fgsetup-1.9.0.exe and fgsetup-1.9.1b.exe seem missing js_demo.exe file (I don't know the reason why).
So, I uploaded js_demo.exe which was included in fgsetup-1.0.0.exe.

Hi Toshi
Thanks for your help. I got hold of js_demo.exe, but it doesn't seem to run in Windows, or the command prompt, and I am no closer to configuring my joystick. If only I could get some pointers.

Hi Laurence,

Which OS are you using?

So far, I believe my uploaded file should run under windows unless your browser failed to download the file.
I would appreciate if anyone can test this file.

In my Windows XP machine, this works as follow:
Code: Select all
C:\>cd tmp

C:\tmp>js_demo.exe
Joystick test program.

Joystick 0 is "Saitek X45 Flight Controller"
Joystick 1 not detected

Although I haven't used Vista machine, post from Vista user also suggests that js_demo.exe included in FlightGear 1.0.0 should run under Vista machine.

If you are using Vista, I suppose one possible reason is User Account Control (UAC) in Vista.
Please google "UAC Vista" in your language and know what it means.

This old article may also help you.

If UAC is not the case for your problem, please show me the messages in command prompt when you run js_demo.exe.

As a newbie FlightGear user, i am still wondering why it is so hard to find the correct information on using Flightgear. It all looks so promising but it is far from a smooth ride to use it.

I am trying to configure (parts of) a steering wheel /pedals rig for use with flightgear.

I ended up looking for js_demo.exe which is nowhere to be found.

It is 2020 now, and this post is the first hit if you type in "js_demo.exe missing flightgear" in a search engine.
All links to a 'working copy' are dead and fs 2020.1 is also missing the js_demo.exe.

Any news?

i forwarded this to the dev mailing list... let's see what comes of it ;)
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."
