Fix for default scenery parking

Postby ivanvector » Sun May 15, 2016 10:34 pm

FlightGear 2016.1.1, Ubuntu 15.10

I noticed that ffgo lists parking positions for most airports, but for airports located in the default scenery area (KSFO, KSJC, KOAK, etc.) I could select parking but would always start on the runway regardless. I could start in parking just fine everywhere else (I fly out of CYYZ a lot, for example). Since I end up buzzing pilots that start up on KSFO 28R all the time, I thought this might help other users who are having this problem.

The fix was pretty simple, and obvious: delete the default scenery folder (or rename it, probably safer), then let TerraSync download the data for that area. And then voila! Can start on parking anywhere. I imagine the location of the folder varies by system, on mine it was in /usr/share/fgfs/Scenery (I think, going by memory).

Cheers!

this problem should be fixed in 2016.3 coming up in a ~10 days if everything goes to plan... i'm able to select parking places from the built-in --launcher now with the latest code...

i'm also happy to announce that the sim is remembering where i started last time so i don't have to select my parking space at my chosen airport every time :)

i build my fgfs from the repo, too... i use the --launcher and have no problems selecting to start in a parking space... for the last month or so, i've been starting in parking F9 at KATL with no problems...

do you use a custom terrasync directory location? one that is not the default in ~/.fgfs?? if yes, you need to add that directory to your scenery paths... that will enable flightgear to properly read the parking and utilize them... i use a custom terrasync directory and worked this specific problem out with james on the dev list...

I find a way to "fix" it, just play the game at any airport. After quit and re-run the launcher, it will enable the parking.

you still have not answered my question about using a custom terrasync directory location...

if you are using the default, the parking should just work... what airports are you trying??

I don't know why every airport no parking, after purging everything in .fgfs, re-clone and rebuild from source, both 2016.4 and 2017.1 NOT work! It is baffling...

do you get parking at KSFO or KATL?? purging, recloning and rebuilding should not affect this since this data is in fgdata... are you maybe using an old fgdata? you need to be using the one equal to your flightgear version...

Bad news...both KSFO and KATL fail. and I git clone from the fgdata repo.

git config -l output:
Code: Select all
remote.origin.url=git://git.code.sf.net/p/flightgear/fgdata
remote.origin.fetch=+refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*
branch.next.remote=origin
branch.next.merge=refs/heads/next
branch.release/2016.4.remote=origin
branch.release/2016.4.merge=refs/heads/release/2016.4

when running run_fgfs.sh from CLI, some output:

That happens because SourceForge removed support for the plain Git protocol. You'll need to change into the fgdata directory and issue the following command:
Code: Select all
git remote set-url origin https://git.code.sf.net/p/flightgear/fgdata
