Forum rules
In order to help you, we need to know a lot of information. Make sure to include answers to at least the following questions in your initial post.

- what OS (Windows Xp/Vista, Mac etc.) are you running?
- what FlightGear version do you use?
- what graphics card do you have?
- does the problem occur with any aircraft, at any airport?
- where did you download your aircraft/scenery from?
- is there any output printed to the console (black window)?
- copy&paste your commandline (tick the "Show commandline box on the last page of FGRun or the "Others" section on the Mac launcher).

Please report any bugs not specific to an aircraft on the issue tracker.
To run FlightGear on old computers with bad OpenGL support, please take a look at this wiki article.

Note: If you did not get a reponse, even after 7 days, you may want to check out the FlightGear mailing lists to ask your question there.

Hi Tristen,

the default package of FlightGear only includes a small area around San Francisco (KSFO). Did you try if you see some terrain when you start at --airport=KSFO?
For the rest of the world, please see our documentation on how to install scenery: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Howto:Install_scenery

Cheers,
Gijs

Well even KSFO is water. I never had a problem until 2.8.

Don't know if this is a Win8 problem.

Seeing as it is newly installed, use fgrun, then click the Prev button at the first screen. In the lower of the two biggish text boxes, labelled FG_SCENERY make sure you have an entry which is the path to ....FlighGear/data/scenery. If it isn't there use the Add button to navigate to it and select it.

You get sea whenever there is no scenery info for the area.

you're looking too hard ;)

in the launcher:
  1. enable terrasync to download the terrain automatically as it is needed...
to predownload terrain:
  1. use terramaster, a GUI downloader written in java
  2. use terrasync.py, a command line downloader written in python3
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

You asked about the whole world. I use Terramaster https://github.com/Portree-Kid/terramaster Be aware that you will need at least 85Gb of free space on your drive as I have all the world downloaded and it takes that much space hope this helps
