Hi! I am a B747-8i Pilot in Flightgear (Given that my FG only has 747-8, I deleted the other aircrafts) I have problems with regards to starting the airplane manually, I DO NOT USE AUTOSTART, when I pull the starter button, it doesn't seem to work.. Please help me on how to start your beautiful creation correctly

-Francis

Hi Francis,

You need 3 things in order to get the engines started: AC power, fuel pressure, and bleed air pressure.
- AC power comes from the external power, the APU generators, or the generator in a running engine.
- Fuel pressure comes from the fuel pumps, which require AC power to run.
- Bleed air comes from the APU or from a running engine. The APU provides enough pressure to start 2 engines at one time. There's also air from a ground source available in the "Boeing 747-8" menu under "Control Panel." The ground air is only sufficient to start one engine at a time.

Here's a typical engine start up procedure:
1. Battery on
2. APU on, wait ~1 minute for it to spool up (it will say "APU RUNNING" on the EICAS)
3. APU generators on
4. APU bleed on (should go on automatically when APU is running)
5. Fuel pumps on
6. Packs Off, #1 Hydraulic demand pump off, #4 Hydraulic demand pump off or AUX
7. Pull #3 and #4 starters
8. When N1 > 30, pull #1 and #2 starters

The starters reset automatically when the engine is running.

Cheers,
John

Hi There!

can I ask how to fix my cabin lights on my 747-8? every time I move the view on the airliner at night the light color changes from white to green and so on...

Thanks!

I have so far not been able to figure out what causes the color changes on the cabin windows. It seems to pick up colors from the livery texture, but not necessarily the color right by the window. I've chalked it up as an accidental simulation of the Boeing Sky Interior mood lighting.

The autothrottle is enabled above 200 ft agl. You'll have to fly it yourself for the first 5 seconds. In the real thing, it's 400 feet on takeoff, but stays on until touchdown. For simplicity in programming, I've split the difference. Eventually, I'll code up a more realistic setup. But short answer: no.

I changed the overspeed (which was the gear-hrn.wav) into this, so it'll sound more urgent and attention grabbing :)

I'm having a problem. If I turn off the battery the panels will all turn off. Even with the engine generator on. The same happens when I use Autostart.

Should the battery be kept in flight on the 747-8 or is this an aircraft problem?

You usually would keep the battery on in flight as a backup. However, please check that the engines are working at idle N1 (usually 30%) and don't turn off when you turn the starter off, and then the engine generator should work.

That's a quirk in the electrical system model that I've never gotten around to fixing. Easiest solution: leave the battery on.
