Designing my own livery for 747-8i.

Postby gray1 » Mon Aug 03, 2020 11:23 am

Hello,
I once saw a video submitted by VladFlyer where he flew the 747-8i. But his livery was a custom job, mainly black with added graphics.
Does anyone know how he did this please?

Thank you in advance,
Gray.

Basically you will need to copy, change name of and edit both a PNG file with the texture and a XML file that will let FlightGear know that your livery is there. You should find existing liveries in 747-8i/Models/Liveries/. Unfortunately there do not seem to be a paintkit (in essence a livery template) available.

A good start should be the FlightGear wiki article: Howto:Edit a livery (permalink).

Paintkits are included in the 747-8i package for both the -8i and -8f variants. These give you blank templates to get you started. They're located in the 747-8i/Models/Paintkit directory.

Thank you. Somehow I did not see them.

Hello Tikibar,
Thank you for all you've helped me with.
I actually lived in Atlanta in '85/'86. We were based about 2 miles from Dobbins AFB, & on that site Lockheed built the C130 & the C5B Galaxy. They then used the base to test fly these aircraft, & if you were outside our condo the Galaxy was low, huge, & beautiful to see. They almost always flew over us because the runway was absolutely parallel to us. We lived on Terrell Mill R'd in Marietta. I was fortunate enough to know an AF employee who took me on site & gave me a tour of the C5B.
Great days.

Thank you again my friend,
Gray.
