reloading liveries without restarting FG?

Postby themadgreek » Sun Dec 04, 2016 8:42 pm

Hi folks,

Is it possible to reload liveries without restarting FG? When I'm making liveries I often check how it looks on the model after changing a few things. It's a bit annoying to have to restart flightgear every time.

It also means I can't do a flight while developing liveries (not so important :P )

Cheers,

Sadly the debug menu does not offer a reload textures, so I think its not possible.

I find that switching to another livery and then switching back reloads the texture. Sometimes I have to wait a short time before switching back. If I want to make a change, I try to remember to switch to another livery, make my changes, and by then fg will reload the texture when I switch the livery back. There have been times, however, where that has not worked and I have to restart fg.

Hi tikibar,

that usually doesn't work for me, but I am quite impatient and switch back immediately.

I will try to wait a bit and see if that makes a difference...

Thanks for you reply.

Got it to work!

1) Switch to another livery
2) Debug > Reload Materials
3) Switch back to livery

Thanks all!

It is much easier using a 3D viewer when creating liveries, this one works well if you are using Windows:

Or even fgviewer.exe, yes?

Does it work also for other textures (themadgreek's way)?

Note that materials are basically textures (on steroids) - if anything, it would make sense to explicitly rename the menu entry accordingly
