Livery "broken" after editing .ac file

Postby jsb » Thu Jul 23, 2015 8:11 pm

Hi,

I did the following steps to add a detail to an aircraft model:
- import original ac file into blender 2.73
- edit the mesh with the knife tool (and look at the UV map editor to avoid distortions)
- export to ac file

Now, when I start FG and change the livery it does not work anymore on the object I did edit but still on the objects (meshes) I left untouched.
Any ideas?
Known common mistakes (not an blender expert yet ;))?

Thanks for any help

what sort of object was it, and how much did it protrude from the body of the aircraft?

Unfortunately the body of the aircraft. I tried to cut the APU door into it

my guess is since you cut a shape into the mesh, a new seperate face has been created, require you to unwrap into the UV Map.

double check by selecting the missing face in Edit Mode, and look in the UV Map for it.

Hi hamzaalloush

The object is he named in the list of textured objects in the xml?

What is the model of aircraft involved? Maybe the author can provide the blender files directly

hello hellijah,

i assume he didn't change the object name as he only used "knife project"(might be worth to check this),

by his explanation, he still see the rest of livery, but not the area that he cut within the knife project, so i assume it's a new face that he has to unwrap.

edit: now i read he didn't say knife project, but knife tools.

To me it sounds like it could be you forgot to add the APU door to the list of objects that the livery should be applied to.

If thats your problem, look for something like this and add the APU door to it:

Code: Select all
 <animation>
  <type>material</type>
  <object-name>flaps</object-name>
  <object-name>fuselage</object-name>
  <object-name>wingLeft</object-name>
  <object-name>wingRight</object-name>
  <property-base>sim/model/livery</property-base>
  <texture-prop>texture</texture-prop>
  <texture>Aircraft/MyPlane/Models/my_texture.png</texture>
 </animation>

Livery UPDATE does not work anymore after editing .ac file

Postby jsb » Fri Jul 24, 2015 6:48 am

Did some quick tests:
* I copied livery over the default blank.png and everything is fine. Mesh is ok, APUdoor is where it should be and animation works, texture is properly aligned. It is just that the livery update does not apply to the modified .ac file.

* Just crossing my mind: the livery update seems to work only on the submodels (engines, wings) which are in separate (untouched) files.

* If I revert the changes to the ac file, update works as before. And obviously I see an error message due to the APUDoor obj missing in the original file.

* /sim/model/livery/* is updated correctly when using the Select Livery dialog

EDIT:
user to stupid, user to stupid, lalala... ;)

I did not notice the obj name changed when I copied parts of the mesh :s
As soon as you do it right, it will work... *sigh*
