I need help with the livery

Postby berkut » Wed Aug 27, 2014 12:34 pm

Hello everyone.

I really need help here... :(

I'm working on the Austrian Airlines livery for the A320 family ,right now I have AUA livery for the A321 almost done....almost.

The problem is in the lower section of the livery, the plane's belly. On the actual livery ,that part is blue. But ,I just can't ,after two days of trying ,I can't find any way to paint that part correctly. The wrong way is to use the UVMap for it,cause when I remove it,that blue part goes with it... aaaand I can't save the livery with the UV MAP visible,it looks ridiculous with it.

On the other side, without UV Map guidelines ,it's close to impossible to do it,cause the paint kit lacks any other guidelines. Also, the winglets are missing from the paint kit...

Is there any better pain kit ?

Thank you.

Regards

You need to use layers. Have the UV map in one layer and paint the texture in a different layer. Then hide the layer containing the UV map when you make the final PNG. (The paintkit may already be organised into layers).

I'd recommend a SVG tool like Inkscape for liveries, rather than a bitmap tool like Gimp. Both have layers, but Inkscape makes it easier to scale, copy and adjust elements of the paintwork.

I never used that Inkscape .but I will learn I guess .

Any idea how to get winglets painted? They are missing from the paint kit.

Also, the paint kit has just a few layers , UV MAP,Basic Elements (main doors) and Background...that's it. :/

Thanks.

With those layers, you probably want to make a new layer for your paint, leave the others untouched and hide the UV map layer for export.

You can use Gimp or Photoshop if you are happy with them. Inkscape has a bit of a learning curve but it's worth it.

Don't know about the winglets. They could be mapped somewhere. If you paint the whole paint layer red (a big rectangle of paint everywhere), do the winglets go red?

Take a look at this:

Image

See the belly? That is the only part of the livery that I can't paint right now. I have everything else done. And ,yes I want to paint just that part of the livery, leaving everything else as it is.

I have the AirSerbia livery done by John Tailor ,and it's a same thing. Winglets are missing.

Thanks

Make a new layer for the belly, ensuring it is transparent and above the UV map layer. Then paint the belly and hide the UV map.

Often the belly is tricky if the mapping is left and right sides. Getting the join can take some trial and error.

I will try that..

Also I will try the Inkscape.. GIMP seems too limited for a lot of things.

Thanks a lot. :)

Regards

EDIT: It's even worse. Now I get the whole paint kit painted in the same color . Also ,I can't move it around. Gimp wants to move the whole thing, instead of that one layer.

This is just way out of my league. ..

No it's not. Keep trying.

It takes a bit of practice to get used to layers but once you get it, you'll use them for everything. If you mess up, you can just delete the layer. Inkscape and Gimp are both powerful programs but nobody was born knowing how to use them.

After much more banging of my head,I finally managed to solve the belly. It's not perfect but ...that was easiest way.

Pics will be here soon.

Thanks sanhozay .

Thanks a lot. :D

About the winglets. If they are being altered when the livery is loaded then they have to be UV mapped somewhere to the paint kit based texture. The way to find out where is to open up the model in Blender and then select the object with the winglets (probably the wing but could be separate). Then go into Edit mode and make sure the winglets vertices are selected. Then go into the UV editor. Blender will then load the texture that these parts are UV Mapped to and you will be able to see where they are and if you want to you can export the UV layout and add it as a layer to the correct texture file if it is not already in place.

I have no clue about Blender,UV Editor or anything like it. The winglets are missing in the paintkit, which comes with the A320 Family. The liveries which are already there, have winglets, somehow.

And ,the livery is here:

Nice. Not everyone get past the obstacles. ;)

As it is a real livery you can consider contributing it to the livery database (please read the important points on top of the page). There is also a link to the livery database on the very top of the forum pages.

Yeah,I'm already aware of the Livery database,so I will send it there.

I have one livery sent there..and I'm waiting to see whether it will be accepted.

Once,again thanks .
