Getting back to building FG on my system. I can see the reasoning behind doing that. I'm not sure of all of the OS and technical details, but I suppose that depending on cpu, number of cores, gpu and so forth, the build process might optimize itself for system particulars. Beyond that, I built FG using dnc about two years ago. I confess that I did not know too much about the dnc build process, but I stumbled my way through it. My main concern is that dnc is going to install linux packages on the fly that could break other drivers, apps, etc. In other words. When I was starting the dnc process, I found some posts that suggested using some non default (not ALSA) sound implementation. I'm not sure of the name but I enabled it. The end result was that it broke my linux sound and I had a heck of a time getting things working again. I'll blame myself for that because I probably just didn't investigate enough and got myself into trouble. But I think the message is that if dnc is installing packages, what is the safeguard against breaking something on my system. In the short term to work on the external components (Arduino, etc), I'm fine with AppImage. But ultimately I would like to be able to do what 'you guys do' - download the source and build a clean system. Anyway, I suppose there is no question here. Just an, oh we'll call it a heads up that at some point I'm going to want to be able to just build FG whenever I need to and I might have a question or two ...!!
Thanks,
Dave
