Postby Clive2670 » Fri Jul 19, 2019 5:24 pm

Admin' please move topic to the relevent sub topic if in the wrong area: Just wondering when the next release of flightgear will be, as I look on a weekly basis on the website, The version I'm running is the same as on there (2018.3.2) and when the new release is released is there a permenant fix for METAR, (I do have the downloaded Fgrun fix installed on 2018.3.2) Thanks in advance Clive

I don't think there will be one at this rate. There doesn't seem to be any interest on the part of those responsible.

I'd like to think that whatever is coming, is going to be BIG AND GLORIOUS. If it's not I'll be a little disappointed......Still waiting patiently though!

Prepare for being disappointed then - there's (for various reasons of personal nature mostly it would seem) not too many people active at the moment, so there's nothing big coming and no surprise waiting - mainly not enough workforce to get something release-grade out.

The project is mature, stable with a good graphical level for me to being published a single release at the end of every year. I've always thought: "How much spare time
the devs have or how many devs work on the project to give us 3 stable releases in a year??"

For the METAR problem, I think there is something strange about it, because on my Debian machine, I had to fix the METAR issue manually within the executable binary file. But as I write this, I am now on FreeBSD 12.0 STABLE, and I installed FGFS from PKG pre-compiled binaries, and I did not had to fix this. How is it possible, since in both cases, the two versions are the same : 2018.3.2 ?

Actually for the METAR-issue it would be quite nice to have the new release. I did not manage to fix my 2018.3.1 in Ubuntu 18.04.

Also curious for the changes in the C172p rudder behavior.

No need to rush - but it would be nice.

No need to wait, it is available in the c172p dev "master" repository on GitHub and in fgdata "next".

Thanks, mate!

Having it the folder for manually added aircraft it gives FGPropertyValue::GetValue() The property/tank[0]7density-lbs_per_gal does not exist.

Nevermind! Enough things to do in flightgear at a relaxed Saturday night.

And people wonder why I am losing motivation. From what I hear 2019.2 is stable except for that view bug. So how long could it possibly take to release? This is getting ridiculous. It's over halfway through the year and we are stuck with a release that cripples airliners Nav Display if you look at the route manager the wrong way.

Josh

I completely agree with that. There is plenty of material for a release - in fact, there are RCs for 2019.1 already available, all that needs to be done is distribute them as a release! There is also A LOT of stuff since those RCs for a new release - say 2019.2!

Remember, all volunteer army with no mandatory term assignments or job titles. There are many things this project needs to have done, right now!
I don't know how keen I would be to have to, say, work on the wiki in order to be allowed to create aircraft or scenery. The people pushing the buttons to publish a new release are volunteers, same as us.
We have a stable rc and there is always "next".
Would a release be nice, sure. I also don't hear 10,000 people all clamoring for an official "new" release. In fact I hear more noise from people that are frustrated because they are still using versions a"couple" generations back that had issues.
I know I don't want the "infrastructure job".
I have to be happy doing the parts I can do and want to do, when I want to do them.

I have lost motivation in the past as well, for many reasons. But the freedom we enjoy to come and go as we please also has real benefits. It has served this community well for a long time.
I think you have to want it for yourself mostly, then comes the gratification from a pat on the back and a job well done stamp.
Just remember why we are all here!
Josh, I have yet to fly your current airliner because it is so advanced and I have limited time to try and learn new things. But knowing the effort you have put into it and the trajectory of your project, it is one of the most exhilarating positive feelings I get about the entire FG project. Really, I mean that. Core stuff, new releases, bits and pieces of improvements here and there are all gravy, but the stuff that makes me giddy is people like you that have the desire and dedication to do their own superior work and give it to all just because they are willing and can!
