How to install FG on an external hard drive?

Is it a good idea to install FlightGear Scenery on an external hard drive in order to save space on the computer? Will performance be still as good as when its running on the computer and will TerraSync work? I am using macOS.

...And, if I move the terrasync fold to a NAS server, how can I configure fgfs?

I would say that unless you are running on a USB 3.0 port, the disk lookup times will be significantly slower, meaning performance could be affected. However, it should be just a matter of plugging it in, then installing the program onto the drive?

You could try googling it to see if it is possible to install a program to an external drive ;)

Installing the scenery on a NAS or external drive works just fine. In my case (WIN7) scenery is stored on a central fileserver and FG starts with these options:
--fg-root=C:\Program Files\Flightgear\data --fg-scenery=N:\shared\scenery --terrasync-dir=N:\shared\scenery
A propeller is just a big fan in front of the plane used to keep the pilot cool.
When it stops, you can watch him start sweating.
