Need help installing FlightGear

Postby bassmann » Thu Mar 22, 2018 12:14 am

Hello all,
i am really desperate, because i am trying to install flightgear for three days now, but so far i was not successful.

My operating System is Win 7 pro, My computer is a HP Z230 Workstation, the CPU is an Intel i7 4770, it got 32GB of RAM, and the build in Graphics Card is a NVIDIA Quadro K2000 (2GB RAM). The Flight Gear Version I am trying to install is FlightGear 2017.3.1.

The installation process runs without any error messages, however, when i try to start the program it stops after a while still during the starting process with the screen added to this post.

check that in the launcher area where you have selected to use the multiplayer feature, that you have selected a MP server, too... or first try disabling MP and see if it loads without that extra stuff...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Hello wkitty,
first of all thxs for your help. Like you sugested i disabled the multiplayer feature, however, FlightGear still stucks in the starting screen.

I now enabled the debugging console window to see all the messeages being generated when starting the program, however, i am not expert enough, to get a grip on all this messages. There are a few lines which report a failure, but i dont really know how to handle this problems. Maybe someone can give me the right hints on what i have to do or to change. Here is a scrennshot of the debugging window.

I am really unlucky, because on my old computer i never had a problem with FlightGear.

Thxs for your help in advance, Stefan

Suggest disabling automatic download of scenery (Terrasync); and start at the default airport as it looks like the terrasync isn't responding.

please open a command prompt (aka CLI) and run a traceroute to that terrasync server...
Code: Select all
traceroute ns334561.ip-5-196-65.eu

then copy and paste the output in a post here... to keep the output readable, be sure to wrap it in code tags like this...
Code: Select all
[code]paste data here[/code]

let's try this with you, too...

1. let's force your scenery downloads to use sourceforge for now...
--prop:/sim/terrasync/http-server=http://flightgear.sourceforge.net/scenery

put that line in the additional settings box in the launcher's settings tab and try to go flying... let's see what happens...

Warning: PUI: Too many live ouinterfaces open at once!

I think i give it up now. It's a pitty, because i loved Flightgear.
Thxs again for you patience wkitty42

hey! that's a change and something new to look at... i'm guessing "ouinterfaces" is a typo?

did the sim open and let you see the scenery and your craft?

don be to quick to leave... maybe we did handle your scenery downloading problem and now there's something else in the way? without further feedback, we can't ever know :?

Hello wkitty42,
you are really helpful, great to know that. Over the last two years I did at least exlpore my home country Germany with the Cessna, spending a couple of hours every month and having a lot of fun. Seems to be over now.

And yes it was a typo: it should have been "Warning: PUI: Too many puInterfaces open at once!"

However, meanwhile i uninstalled FilghtGear again, got a fresh download and tried a complete new installation, but i had no success, the sim still stucks in the starting screen. However, the PUI waring is gone at the moment, what might be because i removed the line

--prop:/sim/terrasync/http-server=http://flightgear.sourceforge.net/scenery

from the additional settings box of the launcher

If you still patient with me, how can i help you, what information can i provide you with?

best regards, Stefan

Ah.... NVIDIA Quadro again.
Looks like the same problem as in this post viewtopic.php?f=22&t=33896&hilit=nvidia
Check it out.
A propeller is just a big fan in front of the plane used to keep the pilot cool.
When it stops, you can watch him start sweating.

Hey dutchman,
you saved my day. this post provided the solution for my problems as well. I used the following code:

fgfs.exe --prop:/sim/rendering/shaders/quality-level=0

and my FG started. However, I don't now what is ment by this line. I also found out that if i check the Atmospheric Light Scatterting (ALS) option in the rendering menue, flightgear freezes again. Maybe someone can give me an explanation what's ment by the line above and by the ALS option in the menue.

However, i am a luck man again, cause i can go on FlightGear

thxs for the help,
regards, Stefan

Your graphics card doesn't play nice with Flightgear's advanced graphics rendering, so you need to go to the simple fallback renderer (quality=0) to see anything.

It works, but it won't look pretty.
