Download Linux versions on Windows?

Postby jharris1993 » Sun Dec 18, 2016 8:05 am

Greetings!

Is it possible to use Windows to download Linux distributions for off-line installation?
(i.e. My Windows box is on a relatively fast download, and I want to bring FlightGear to someone running Linux with a horrible internet connection.)

I notice that I cannot click directly on a package link from the Linux download page to grab the package.

Given distribution "X", what packages need to be downloaded for a complete install?

Thanks!

It depends on:
  • the distribution you are running, and
  • whether all libraries required by FlightGear are already installed on the system or not.

Which Linux distribution and release have you installed?

I am not assuming any one particular distribution - all I'm assuming is that the distribution is one on your list of supported distro's that have pre-built packages.

Easy, just fetch SimGear and FlightGear source and the data. Then compile the sources on any Linux distro you'd like to.

I'd really like to download a pre-built binary if possible.

Yeah, I've got that from your previous post, though there is no such thing. Except the ones provided for Ubuntu. For any other distro you'd have to rely on their packaging system. Which brings us back to elgaton's "Which Linux distribution and release have you installed?".
