How to download new versions when "update available" is gone

Postby LH381 » Fri Dec 02, 2022 10:03 am

So I am trying to find a way on how to make the "new version available" prompt at the top right of the corner to appear again so that I can download the new FG 3.17. Does anyone know how to do this?

what "new version available" prompt?
in the top right corner of what?
there is no FG v3.17...
please use the entire version number... we cannot tell if your shortcut means 2018.3.17, 2019.3.17, 2020.3.17, etc... yes, it is possible that there could be versions like this... this is why you must always use the full version number and not be lazy about writing 5 additional characters...

"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I guess you are referring to the blue popup in the launcher ? In that case, there's no way to make it do that - it'll pop up all by itself once the new release is ready ! :)

It was Flightgear 2020.3.17. I saw the popup earlier today so I guess there is no way to make it go back?

Not that I know of, but you can simply download it from http://download.flightgear.org/builds/2020.3/ ! :)

May I ask where you found that in the flightgear website so I can use it for future reference?

how hard can it be?
  1. start at https://www.flightgear.org/
  2. scroll to the https://www.flightgear.org/download/ link
  3. click on it or "Download Central"
  4. choose an OS and method
  5. once downloaded, install it
  6. done

Easier alternative, if you have an earlier version of 2020.3 installed:
Click "source" at the topline of this forum website
Click the tab "files" in the opened window of Sourceforge
Click "release 2020.3"
Click "FlightGear-2020.3.17-web.exe" if you have a window computer, download and run this web.exe file, it will update your installed FG version.

Maybe something similar works with the "FlightGear-2020.3.17-update-data.txz" for linux PC, but I don't know about this one.
