Where to get later versions of Flightgear?

In order to help you, we need to know a lot of information. Make sure to include answers to at least the following questions in your initial post.
- what OS (Windows Xp/Vista, Mac etc.) are you running?
- what FlightGear version do you use?
- what graphics card do you have?

Where to get later versions of Flightgear?

So apparently there are more modern versions of flightgear like Flightgear 4.0? Does anyone know where to get these later versions?

The latest release that exists is 2020.3.16 at time of writing, with 2020.3.17 coming down the pipeline. You can download these releases from SourceForge like usual.
2020.4.0 is code for the current development version (the "nightly"), which contains new features but is completely untested and not recommended for general use.

There are free alternatives to (almost) every program you encounter. You just have to find them.

May I ask where I can find these nightly builds? The last time I downloaded from nightly, it said it was a virus.

The nightly versions are found here: https://download.flightgear.org/builds/nightly/
Windows handles the installer as an unsafe file because it doesn't have an expensive digital autograph. Click on 'more options' and then you are able to run the installer. Be aware that FG nightlies are updatet automatically and are often unstable or contain bugs. They are recommended for development and testing new options, but not for casual flying.
