  List last updated Saturday, April 10th, 2010 @ 0615 UTC

We are just two weeks away from the first TransGear Airways event -- TGA9 -- under our new, experimental format! While I am still working on finalizing the Air Traffic Controller lineup, I want to make sure I allow as much time as possible for flight assignments as well, because the new format will likely be confusing to most. I think once you see how it works you'll understand it a bit better. However, here's an attempt to explain:

Like always, flights are first-come-first-served. There are twenty routes available, each including three legs. I encourage as many of you as possible to choose an entire route from start to finish; however, as each is approximately a five-hour stint including stops, I understand that some may not be able to commit this much time. So if you need to break up a route and take only one or two legs, I ask that you specify which leg(s) you can do. You can specify via route and leg numbers, or by departure, layover, and destination airports. For example:

claiming "1280 all" would be the same as taking "KBOS-KIND-KATL-KCLT";
signing up for "1130 leg 1" would be the same as saying "KOKC-KATL";
asking for "1150 leg 3" would be the same as reserving "KIND-KDTW";
requesting "1170 legs 1 and 2" would be the same as claiming "KIAH-KATL-KIND".

The only thing you CANNOT do is specify ONLY "KIND-KATL" or "KATL-KIND", since ten routes each include these legs. If you're taking a leg 2 only, you MUST tell me which route number you are taking it for, and then make sure you adhere as closely as possible to the associated times.

A note about the flight numbers: pilots taking an entire three-leg, five-hour flight should just use "TGA" plus their route number. However, if there is a route that is being split and taken by more than one pilot, there is a small numbering convention I am employing to make sure there won't have to be two pilots logged on at the same time and place with the same flight number. This is explained in brief on the Event Schedule page, but if you are signing up for a partial route, just check the table above to see what flight number you've been assigned. Again, this is something that may seem complex at first but will become more evident once you see it in action.

Don't overlook this thread if you plan to take any leg which starts or stops at KIND: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7371

So it's that time... E-mail me or reply right here to reserve your flight. I'm looking forward to this event like I have no other before it! Let's put it to the test!

I'll take 1130 legs #2 and #3.
KATL-KIND-KORD

At this stage it will be in my Qantas 777-200ER, but I may change to the 787 (if I can get hold of a Qantas livery).

When legs 2 & 3 are to be grouped together, that pilot should use a flight number ending in 5, so TGA1135. If anyone grabs up just that first leg KOKC-KATL, they'll be TGA1131. (Again -- the reason behind that is so that when the first pilot lands in Atlanta, and Lukosius is already there doing his preflight prep to depart for Indianapolis & beyond, they won't both be on as 1130.)

Apologies if I am overexplaining -- I will probably tend to do that this first time until it gets more familiar to folks.
Cheers,

I'll take TGA1120, and I should be able to do the whole thing...using the Tu154b as usual.

Request testing for part-time ATC?
Look for "B-BIRD" "N127KY" or "AVA0004" -that's me.

Despite having over 1700 posts here, I am not even close to being the most skilled guy here... I'm just words and bad drawing, not experience. :P

Ahhhh... you dog! I knew you were gonna take that one. I was hoping you'd angle for 1220 so you could arrive "back home" as it were, and I could do the same for 1120. LOL. It's no big issue -- you have choice over me. I'm not even sure whether I'll be flying this event, so it's all good. Glad you can participate.

Oops! That was on my TODO and I totally dropped the ball; sorry. See your PM.

Can't wait! I'll have TGA1170 Legs two and three: which means my callsign would be TGA1175?

My aircraft will be a 777-200 with a British Air livery.

Hey, yeah that actually sounds like a better idea...go ahead and switch me to 1220. I like the idea of arriving home at the end...and I've not had much luck flying into baltimore in past events either. :)

Depending on my weekend schedule, I will either fly something in the 787 or maybe go up in the tower to watch and listen. I may not even have time to do anything, we're packing up stuff in the house to move out for a remodel.

Correct. Thanks!

ChocBoy wrote:My aircraft will be a 777-200 with a British Air livery.

FYI, you only need to specify the livery if it's not included with the generally available release. BA is one of the ones that comes "standard" with the 777-200ER. Not that there's any harm in telling us... LOL... but just in case you were wondering why some specify and some don't, that's why.

Tuxklok wrote:go ahead and switch me to 1220.

Hahaha, are you sure? 1120 is definitely up for grabs and I hope people don't shy away from taking it if they want it because I said something. Like I said, I may or may not fly this event, depending on the ATC situation and how many pilots we get or whatever other issues might come up. But if you'd rather arrive back home at the end, at least you now know that the possibility is there.

I guess I should've known better than to pair your home airport with mine... lol.

Where are you located, mattt?

Just because the timezone is bad doesn't mean you can't participate. We have people who take off at midnight! Lol, now that's what I'd call "pilot fatigue" the next day after a redeye flight!

UTC+10. Very near to YBBN :-)

Also have three kids still at home, a wife and a 10-odd week old puppy... Makes keeping odd hours difficult, even if logistically do-able ;-)
