List last updated Saturday, February 13th, 2010 @ 1250 UTC

Hello pilots... TransGear 7 is just over two weeks away. I'm very excited about this one because, as it stands now (of course, this is subject to change), we should be able to run both hubs with two air traffic controllers! In the West, initial contact will be with SP-CEZ as Salt Lake Approach on 124.3, who will hand off to Farmboy manning Salt Lake Tower on 118.3. In the East, Potomac Approach will be conducted by Jomo on 119.0, and he will transfer you to myself holding down Baltimore Tower on 119.4. (EDIT: revised ATC personnel lineup.)

Anyway, please remember that FGCom use is mandatory, that all times listed are UTC, that first-timers are welcome to join us as long as they look over the guidelines found at http://transgear.treborlogic.com, and that published flight routes (SIDs/STARs) are mandatory for West routes (2xx) but optional for the East (1xx).

Assignments are first-come, first served -- so please let me know who wants to fly with us on the 13th!

I'll take TGA251, using the flight plans described on the TGA website, but with a 787 cruising at FL400, which places my BoD at DTA on the inbound flight.
I'll be doing my practice flight tomorrow. I think I'll take video this time, only b/c I imagine the airport is going to be much more populated. I've figured out how to do efficient climbs and descents now, so I shouldn't be running quite as late as before. Of course, I always seem to encounter some sort of glitch during these events, so I cannot be certain about that.

I'm back for this one so I will take TGA233 out of Denver like I did for TGA #5.

I will be flying my Qantas 777ER.

I've found after doing a bunch of test flights in and out of the West that the times probably need to be extended on some or most of the flights. Unfortunately it seems as if some of the arrival paths in Salt Lake tend to add a lot of time, especially the ones for landing on 16/17 which make you go some 27-odd miles past the airport before turning in. I imagine it's because of the high IAFs as we discussed in an earlier thread -- starting an approach at 11,000 MSL, you do have to get lined up fairly far out.

Of course, ultimately, whatever it takes to safely avoid smashing your plane into a million tiny pixel shards on a big rock face is the rule of the day, eh?

After a little more experimenting, I may go ahead and adjust the flight times for the West. For now, if any of you feel you need to leave a few minutes early in order to get in by 1515, that's fine.
Cheers,
-Rob.

Also, don't forget that if the winds are different than what was current in that flightplan, you might have to use a different variation of the same STAR, or a different STAR altogether. Double-check the weather briefing the morning of using the NWS link I have posted on the Charts and Resources page. (An update will probably be posted here on this thread as well.)

Can you put me down for 115 please. I think I have fixed my scenery problem with a HDD Defrag - However I will perform some test flights before the event.

I will be flying a DC-6, now we have the Conny and the DC-6 at a TGA event :P

So, I'm thinking of having a slideshow at the beginning of the vid, since it will be too dark at first to record video. I'll just use the autoshoot at the beginning of my inbound flight, and then video once I near KSLC and after that.
MD-Terp wrote:you might have to use a different variation of the same STAR, or a different STAR altogether.

Right. I actually forgot for a moment that some STARs at KSLC are runway-specific. I'll be sure to check the weather. Btw, that flight took me 1:47, so I guess I won't be starting too early, since I normally start about 15 minutes early anyway, so I have time to punch in my waypoints and taxi from the gate to the runway, as I did in that flight.

I'll just observe/photograph, if you want?
(Might videorecord too, but my graphics card is bad...)
Look for "B-BIRD" "N127KY" or "AVA0004" -that's me.

Despite having over 1700 posts here, I am not even close to being the most skilled guy here... I'm just words and bad drawing, not experience. :P

It can't be all that bad. I use a very unintelligent Intel graphics integrated chip, and I still manage okay videos using a screen recording software with the fps set to 10.
