I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but I have found a couple of good resource points in my research of STARs and SIDs over the past month.....

1) http://www.flightaware.com/resources/ai ... LL_all.PDF
This PDF basically has every KSLC chart you could ever possibly need. But be aware that the file is around 28MB so you might want to <right click> to download the file. I have found that flightaware.com is an excellent resource for stuff like this.

2) http://www.dc3airways.com/technical/fil ... Charts.pdf
This is a tutorial by a Microsoft FS virtual airline on how to read charts. The handy thing is the tutorial is based around KSLC.

I'll take TGA233 out of Denver in a Qantas B777-200ER. I'm not certain I will be 100% on the ball with this, but I don't think anyone is at this early stage.

I'm sure it will be a learning experience for a lot of us. Just don't hit any big rocks. :)

The 777-200ER on the Approved Equipment list does not include the Qantas livery. I know you used it before, but can you give me the download link again?
EDIT: Never mind, I found it at http://www.goldencity.com.au/flightgear ... -200ER.zip ; forum and website lists updated.

By the way, this is a freakin' excellent find; thanks! I've linked to it from the TGA site.

And just like that, my wife reminds me about something possibly coming up for that day. Please leave me listed for now as it's about 70% chance I'll make it, but a hard confirmation will have to wait until plans for that weekend settle down.

Anyone know if the KSLC terminal is available for download anywhere (if there even is one)?

According to this thread (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4700), there is SOME improvement at KSLC, although the list contained there doesn't specify what. However, in my little bit of playing around there, I don't recall seeing anything.

For those of you who fly around KBWI (for this event or just in general), please be aware of this thread:

family based conflicts are resolved so unless they decide to schedule me for that day in the next 1.5 weeks, I'm good to go. I *may* change my plane to a 737-400 though. I'm still playing with it to see if I like it enough to displace my 777 for the event or not. So far it seems pretty nice, though I'm still figuring out the autopilot.

So, I'm guessing there won't even be a terminal to taxi to after we land KSLC :(? Well, that's unfortunate. I hope you don't mind if I choose not to record video for this event. My vids make FG look bad enough with the messed up 3D clouds and the frequent crashes and glitches. I'd rather not add too much lacking scenery on top of that.
I don't want to totally ruin your plans for TGA, but perhaps, for TGA6, we should make sure the procedural hub (i.e. a new procedural hub) has at least SOME buildings before committing it to the event. Just a suggestion

Im 90% sure I already know the answer to this, but can vectors be used at KSLC, or do SIDs and STARs etc have to be used?

Can't get the autopilot on the 737-400 to control air speed or altitude, and I'm too lazy to control them manually under ATC, so I'll stick with the 777 for this round.

Very nice plane to fly though.

In real life you have to file a flight plan, and it would almost certainly include a SID/STAR procedure. So I think yes, you should probably plan on using a SID/STAR in your flight. STAR's especially are quite useful as they start a long way out(way before you'll be in contact with ATC) and bring you into the airspace in a sane, safe, and predictable manner.

However, SID/STAR procedures and vectors are not mutually exclusive, many SID/STAR themselves are just transition points requiring vectors from ATC. Also it's quite normal for ATC to vector you around a bit for separation and sequencing purposes, or do whatever else they want with you, it's completely up to them what to do with you once in their airspace...no matter what you file in your flight plan.

If your worried about SID/STAR procedures being too complicated or hard to follow, just remember you don't have to be perfectly by the numbers, it's quite often impossible to do that in flightgear anyway. At it's very simplest you can often just stick the waypoints into the route manager and call it close enough. I would encourage trying to find a procedure that can be followed properly with your chosen aircraft though, and try to follow it as precisely as possible....otherwise what's the point of doing all this? :)

cheers!

Thanks Tuxklok,

I think I'll be staying with flying into KBWI this month, and maybe fly into KSLC (Or the equivalent if this destination changes) next month.
