Hi all,

I have setup a new MP server. You can currently reach it through it's direct sub domain name but Curt will later on add an alias for it. So for now you may want to try this:

Host: mpserver08.flightgear.org
Ports: UDP 5000 Telnet 5001
Tracked: Yes
Location: Frankfurt am Main, Germany
Ping: ~20ms (normal load)
mpstatus: Yes

Some technical data:
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 605e Processor (2.25 GHz each core)
bogomips: 4590.53
RAM: 8 GB Kingston
HDD: 2x1 GB SATA WDC WD1002FBYS-50A6B1 (UDMA/133)
RAID: Level 1 (Mirror, software)
Uplink: 100 MBit
NIC: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM57780 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 01)
Uptime: >99.9% (47 days as of 06/12/2011)
OS: Debian Unstable AMD64
Kernel: 2.6.38.4 (own configured, vanilla)

$ free
Code: Select all
$ free
             total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem:       7941216    7836516     104700          0     424672    4805352
-/+ buffers/cache:    2606492    5334724
Swap:            0          0          0

Not to brag around, just for your information. With my previous machine I had an uptime of more than 1.000 (thousand, yes!!!) days, due to an urgent kernel update, I had to reboot).

Regards,
Roland

Great Roland! New servers are created in droves now!
I've added your server to the wiki-list, if you like you can add your full name (optional).

Thanks!

'Ping' is the measure of latency between two computers, measured in milliseconds. So if the ping is 20ms, it would take 20 milliseconds to receive a response from the server after sending a packet.

In a multiplayer first person shooter game for example, 3 seconds would be way too much :)

It's indeed very fast, most of the time, when playing a multiplayer game, a good ping is under 100 ms.
