Yeah, but if you lock the tailwheel, you cannot steer anymore
It's because on ground, you can only steer by differential brake inputs. But well, maybe I just have to practice a bit …

One day to go!

Weather update:

Headwinds expected, so we'll make sure it is really take-off time is really 20:00 local. Cruise speed 180kts.

Historic separation was 3min (to allow one aircraft starting or landing in between. We can reduce this to 90s.

Ysop wrote in Sun May 02, 2021 12:58 pm:This is the event post to EDDI-EDDF Berlin airlift 5.5.2021.

This return flight should be a bit easier than the preceding trip. There is not such a long stretch between the NDBs and this time the runway will be not only lit, but also more than long enough.

schedule

group 1: 18:00 UTC takeoff time (Usually we gather 30min before that on the appron)
group 2: 19:00 UTC (for those coming in later. use a/A to catch up)

Fantastic, that everybody was in group 1 last time!

Hi Ysop - can you confirm the wheels up time as UTC? - fingers crossed it is still 18:00 UTC? - meeting at 17:30 UTC?

Final shot!

That was again a nice flight! Heavy workload on the approach, but jomo saved us in frankfurt. And we would had more trouble getting there, if not for Tobias great service leading us outbound from Berlin.

Next week we might try some glider fun?
We could use the dev version of the ASK-21: https://github.com/viktorradnai/flightg ... m_overhaul
Route might be the https://wiki.flightgear.org/Pinzgauer_Spaziergang starting at Zell am See (where we landed on the first alp trip leg).
(please read the wiki page and install the thermals :))

Very recently Heiko did release a new version of the C182S to FGaddon, capable of aerotowing.
I would want to test that with you, and then join the soaring myself :)

That was really good fun! To be repeated. Maybe in the winter in real IMC ;-)

Thanks for everyone involved!

Thank you Ysop and everyone and a special mention for Air Traffic Control!! It taught me we should practice the calls to help them understand who is talking. To make things more challenging ATC's lost their audio transmit function but despite the occasional (understandable) TENSE text on the chat :) , managed to get us all down! - but I for one didn't spot I'd left the parking brake on (the DC-3) during another tense moment scrambling round all the cockpit view keys trying to bring the auxillary tanks online when both engines cut out! ...in my defence B is next to V ;) haha

So next time our favorite C182 "Mrs. Crippled Legs" will give us a tow.

... if we manage to actually tow and not get passed by from the glider :)

Btw, the crippled gear should not happen anymore if you update the c182s to the latest version (and use the +2017 mp packet format)

Can you tell me how to find $FGDATA/preferences.xml ? In https://wiki.flightgear.org/Pinzgauer_Spaziergang I am instructed to modify that file, I already did a recursive search for that file in fgdata and $HOME/.fgfs, but couldn't find it …

It is not in your .fgfs but in the FG data directory (aka $FGROOT)

Re: Wednesday evening session: sailplanes at Zell am See

Postby Ysop » Sat May 08, 2021 1:00 pm

So this time a much more casual meeting at Zell am See.

If you use another glider as above, say so in your post to enable us to downlaod and see you correctly on multiplayer.
In the ASK21 90 is the magic number for best glide. Minimum sinking 80-85km/h.
If you are not used to motorless flying: give it a try! IT is a lot of fun!

We can start rwy 08, but you are kindly requested to activate "ground services" via the menu and move your aircraft using throttle and rudder to a position forward, so we do not pile up.
Our circuit is south of the airport.
As usual we can start around 18:00UTC.

Settings:
Noon, fair weather, advanced weather, thermals activated, turbulence weak.
We might have to experiment with the weather settings. Ridge flying is easier than staying in thermals.
No sure, if this allows the "Pinzgauer Spaziergang"

Thanks Ysop for coordinating!

How do we meet for voice? Should we again meet in mumble? Or jitsi again?

For towing you all up: what is the trick so the glider does not go past my C182s at takeoff?
I think with the last experiment, we had the problem that the glider did go too much into the air, pulling my tail up and thus preventing lift and takeoff, braking me down aerodynamically and making things worse this way.
