Where are the pilots?

Postby LH-1701 » Mon Jun 17, 2019 9:39 am

Hi,

while flying from GCLP to EDDF on saturday i saw many ATCs online in europe (EDDF, EDDH, EDDL, EKCH, ESSA, LEBL, LFSB and some other) but there were nearly no clients.
So all these guys were waiting for hours for nearly nothing, thats a pitty in my eyes.

So, pilots, no matter if beginner or advanced, give these ATCs a try! Its worth a try to fly with ATC.

ATCs, please file your session at flightgear-atc.alwaysdata.net . This helps us pilots to plan a flight with ATC.

Lets fill the airspace with pilots and controllers!

reguards,

tobias

FWIW: this is entirely possible since there are more non-MP pilots than there are MP pilots...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I am online nearly every evening and those ATCs are often online:

EDDL (including EDDE sometimes)
EBBR
EGKK
EDDF
LEBL

So I just take a look at a mp online map and start at a ATC occupied aiport or start in the air and land there. So I follow the ATCs and do not have a straight flightplan.

Pilots are on P3D, or XP11, or FSX and logged into VAT Sim.

Absolutely! And once we get swift integration I will be promoting FG on the network. It's a choice (and yes I have FSX and XPX too)

I really love to fly on VATSIM with FG indeed, it will be much easier once Swift is fully working. :)

I also like vatsim and waiting for swift integration, but thats not the topic.

Its a pitty that there are so few pilots in FG.

What i like about FG is that flying is more relaxed compared to vatsim. And vatsim is way more realistic with guaranteed quality of Atcs and much more traffic.
So both habe their good sites.

FGMP's pros are that it's not proprietary and and in some cases it seems technically more flexible/capable that FSD/VATSIM.

FGMP is also structureless, with no rules and regulations, which means that there's no "bureaucracy" that we have on VATSIM which I admit in some cases is unnecessarily excessive, but that brings it's own set of problems including low quality of the experience and abuse of service, and this is especially problematic for ATC where rules and proper interaction and the balance between those plays a significant role in the whole experience.

I'd like to compare it to an old school arcade game, say, PAC-MAN where if you can run around the map with unlimited lives cheat on, it quickly becomes boring as there is no challenge.

I seem to remember that MP was never intended to be a Libre/FOSS VATSIM like alternative, and having that in mind, don't expect too much of it exactly for that reason. I suspect that even less people will be using it once Swift is in the picture, I know I probably won't.

You are sooo right -- I am trying to promote since a long time: We should be glad to have that 4 opportunities:

1) A game for newbies that just want to fool/play around without needing any prior schooling/training/registration!

2) An environment were you can upgrade by learning to follow rules (as well provided by books as also by our (non licensed!) ATCs. Here always is the big problem to provide an area undisturbed from the group1 and still offering something even for the group3. As one of those ATCs (like me): I suggest to just neglect pilots that do not want or are not able to follow advise or rules)

3) An environment that requires learning/knowledge/registration etc. (BTW: As well for pilots as also for ATC's!)

4) real-world piloting (outside PCs! -)

You may have noticed: Group 1+2 are provided by FGFS, 3 by VATSIM, 4 by the real world.
Does anybody want to delete any of those groups? And if: Why??

Personally I wish there was something in between #2 & #3. What I like about FG is a relaxed flight, no pressure even if I mess up and park at the wrong gate like I have recently at EDDL,
no such a thing at Vatsim. There has been way too much nonsense on FG for me with an ATC who should not be an ATC, but I guess that comes with the territory.

Hello there!

As a fellow flier, I've always wanted to learn how to talk to ATC and be able to effectively communicate with them. I understand there are active ATC's I've just either been a little to nervous or not known where to find them! Could anyone help me with this?

Thanks!
