It is understandable for you to be nervous, but you don’t have to be. I agree with the many pilots in this thread who've said FlightGear is a much more relaxed experience and is a great platform to learn. That being said, if you still don’t feel at ease with the radios what I suggest is for you to tune into https://www.liveatc.net, or even better, sit in one of the various mumble channels as an OBS (observer) where ATCs are hosting events and listen to their interactions with the pilots in their airspace.

The first link is the FlightGear ATC event and flight planning website. The second is the multiplayer map at the bottom of which you will find a list of all pilots/ATCs that are online (on servers 01 and 03). To find ATCs faster than by just scrolling through the list, click on the funnel at the top right of the list box and type in either "OpenRadar" or "ATC-pie" in the box next to "in the aircraft model".
