Flight to the history - old Quito

Some about airport :
Full name : Mariscal Sucre International Airport, Spanish: Aeropuerto Internacional Mariscal Sucre, ICAO: SEQU was the main international airport serving Quito, Pichincha Province, Ecuador. It was the busiest airport in Ecuador by passenger traffic, by aircraft movement and by cargo movement, and one of the busiest airports in South America. It was named after Venezuelan-born Antonio José de Sucre, a hero of Ecuadorian and Latin American independence. It began operations in 1960, and during its last years of operation, handled about 6.2 million passengers and 164,000 metric tons of freight per year. The airport, one of the highest in the world (at 2,800 metres or 9,200 feet AMSL) was located in the northern part of the city, in the Chaupicruz parish, within 5 minutes of Quito's financial center; the terminals were located at the intersection of Amazonas and La Prensa avenues. Mariscal Sucre International was the largest hub for TAME with an average of 50 daily departures.

Image

Airport ceased all operations at 19:00 on February 19, 2013, following the departure of TAME flight 321 to Guayaquil (scheduled for 18:55). Iberia operated the final international departure from the airport. On the morning of February 20, 2013, all operations moved to the new Mariscal Sucre International Airport. The first domestic flights scheduled to arrive at the new airport were TAME Flight 302 originating in Guayaquil, and LAN Flight 2590 originating in Lima, Peru. The new airport is located in the Tababela parish, about 18 kilometres (11 mi) to the east of the city.
It was constructed by a private consortium.

The former airport is now the site of Parque Bicentenario, the biggest urban park in Quito.

Beware of high terrain on base turn !

Why not make a video of your Flight gear plane joining circuit and landing safely at this World Challenging Approach instead of hours of studying all the gumph you provided to show how scary this place is? Show us with a video of your exploits. There are just as challenging places closer to home to hone your flying skills. Like this one a few miles from KSFO!

Hmm, I might be down for this one. If I do, I'll do in the incredible McDonnell Douglas MD-11F

Fascinating video:

Sounds like a great place to fly, V12! Would you happen to have more charts for SEQU? An Internet search turned up nothing...

excellent find! glad i had my captions turned on and set for english or i'd have been very lost as to what they were doing
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Very nice video. Thank You for Your find.

cbgonzalez :
There is big problem with old Quito maps, this airport is out of the service from Februar 2013 - more than six years. I found only 2 approach charts - that one in the first topic and second is very similar for ILS approach.

Glad you guys liked it!

Is there specific scenery for this to use? I've got terraGIT if the northern hemisphere installed since that is where I fly most often.

Standard scenery from terrasync contains Quito and Bogota, Quito is my own work, Bogota is product of my son Adam (CSAADAM). That sceneries are available on my git pages :

Bogota Eldorado - https://github.com/BAWV12/SKBO

Gave it a shot in the Cub because that is my speed. Approach and landing not much of and issue except the low atmosphere. Taking off however was a bit more difficult. You really notice the altitude.
Thanks again for drawing attention to this airport.
