The Festival of FlightGear Fall 2019

Postby legoboyvdlp » Thu Nov 29, 2018 2:01 pm

I was informed that the planning for the events generally took place at the same time to allow more time for scenery development at the fall festival. Therefore...

Location - Please go ahead and submit any suggestions for location! :) The only rule is that it must be within Europe (the continent).
So far suggestions at either forum include:

Date: as usual the first weekend of November - Saturday 2nd / Sunday 3d November 2019

I'm not really sure if this still counts as Europe, but my suggestion would be:
The Canary Islands :)
with Gomera,

Tenerife,

La Palma

and many more :)

According to plate tectonics, that's Africa unfortunately:

I need input here - do we consider Europe to be the EU, mainland europe, geographically europe (european plate?), or politically europe (in which case canary islands counts?)

The definition provided by wikipedia seems reasonable. Essentially, anything yellow on this map:

There are still a few debatable territories there, however, almost all of them are too small and / or too remote to be considered anyway (assuming that a lot of people will want to fly jet airliners like the A320 or the 777).

Yes... that sounds fine - though in that case, the canary islands are out :(

I would like to propose South Spain / Portugal. I believe we did Barcelona years ago, but I don't think we have done the southern part. Airports in that region would include Gibraltar (well... that is the UK :) ), Faro, Malaga, Seville, Lisbon, etc. Maybe Andalusia (spain), Gibraltar (UK), and Algarve, Antelejo, and Lisbon (portugal)?

you dont need to fly only transcontinental for a festival but be on radar in the selected airports/areas. Nice proposal legoboyvdlp!

Spain+Portugal in 2014 was the very first Festival and it was indeed all the peninsula, but I'm fine with putting it back.
I suggest also:
- BENELUX states (nothing better than that considering where FSWeekend takes place).
- France
- Germany
- Greece (islands fun place to fly).

Ah, no, we didn't.
I'll put a poll up. But is this going to go ahead? :?

Well if done right why not? Like more focus on actual events that involve people like fly-ins etc. and not ATC-centered as it has been so far.

I hope we have internet at FSweekend this year, I would love to be able to participate from the venue and especially let visitors participate and experience e.g. a group flight. Unfortunately the venue is like a big cage of Faraday, so even using 4G didn't work in the past. The venue hasn't opened up the wifi yet because putting over 100 (or even more? I never counted them) highly demanding computers on a network doesn't seem to be a good idea :p

The Faroe Islands could be an awesome choice - though the weather (and temperature) would be a whole lot nicer somewhere around the Med.

They're too much of a restricted place IMO.
I'd pick a larger airspace where flyi-ins, ATCs, etc. will have more playground.
I'd put up a poll to select a location so we have a starting point to develop from.
