Proposed unity flight in June

Postby swampthing » Tue May 08, 2018 12:43 am

I thought since the community seems to be split all over the place I would post this everywhere and see if we could put together a flight in June. I was thinking a relaxed VRF scenic flight. Anyone interested?

What does VRF mean?

Is it the same as VFR that I typed after drinking too much red wine?

Typo. VFR. You'll learn you have to read through the typo's when I post. Neurological problem sends my fingers all over the place. I don't even have to get drunk. haha

Good idea. I vote for some kind of trans Alps flight, for example from Salzburg to Aosta via Innsbruck, Bolzano, Samedan, Sion or others. This region is perfectly developed. Ofcourse VFR with some powerfull turboprop like DHC6 or similar.

You may leave us behind. ;) We'll have to keep in mind the service ceiling of GA planes.

Here is the flightplan. There is a place to stop halfway if we need to take a break/refuel. Just download the gpx file and add it into the route manager. I just took a test flight and if the weather is like it is today it could be quite interesting if you fly down and explore. ;) https://skyvector.com/?ll=60.4036801989 ... MYK%20PAYA

Yeah we might have to cut that in half at least.

If someone wants to cut that flight plan in half feel free. I most likely won't be able to make it now so do as you please. I will probably be 3 hours south of here helping my parents. Its nothing to get a flight together. Figure out what VOIP you want to use, Discord, Mumble or TeamSpeak. I've tried FGcom recently and it was not working right so I would not bank on that. Theres no science to it, just get together and fly. thats what we should be doing all the time.

All the best,
Steve

Just a thought.... The route splits in half at about PAVD. If a group wants to start out at Homer (PAHO) at a given time, then 2 hours later have a start at PAVD, then 2 hours later everyone can land at Yakutat (PAYA). Anyone wanting to boost faster than 120 (say 160ish in a DHC6 does for 3 hours total whole route) can start at a fractionally later time.

The key will be to set an actual date, since we're already in June. How about Sunday, June 24, 18:00 UTC (1 PM Central) for start at PAHO, 20:00 UTC for PAVD starters, event ends around 22:00ish? If I'm coordinating I'll say let's use Mumble for voice comm.

I am sorry to hear that. Despite what I said above, would pushing it off to July help at all? We'd like to have you along too!
