Flight Gear Film Festival

Postby Turnit » Sun Feb 25, 2018 6:25 pm

A few days ago, I got an idea of a Flight Gear Film Festival based of one based in my hometown. I am now curious if anyone else would be interested in doing something like this. My idea would be participants would have 48 hours to make a feature length (like 1 hour to around 2.5 hours), and the competition would take place over a weekend, starting midnight Saturday and ending 11:59 Sunday UTC. Then the following Sunday, the submit movies would be live streamed online (probably Twitch or YouTube), and then a voting period would follow (probably 12-24 hours), where the Flight Gear community could vote on their favorite film. I created a poll to see if anyone is interested in something like this, so vote.

In my experience, you take at least a few months (if not years) to make a decent feature length film...

Either way, people interested in participating in something like this will undoubtedly want to come up with a script - which would also come in handy for other purposes (think Marius_A's adventures/missions work)

Thus, if this is ever "to fly", my suggestion would be to first start a new topic collecting ideas for a concrete plot (script) and let people vote there...

Like Thorsten said, this is unlikely to be particularly compelling if people only have 2 days to come up with a 1-hour "movie"

True, could shorten it to like 15 minutes or something like that.

I'd be interested for a short video... I've got Vegas so I'll probably edit it aswell. If it's short, I'm in.

Kind Regards,

Currently the poll is 3 for yes and 2 for no. I think a short video, like mentioned earlier fits a weekend better. Like, the max could be around a half hour or so, minimum around like 10-15 minutes, but all of that could be figured out among contestants if people are interested.

The final vote was 6 yes and 3 no. I think we should continue on with the event, so I will make a google form where people can sign up for the event (will come tomorrow). An official date and rules will be published in the first post after they are voted upon.

Below is the tentative date and rules, all of which will be voted on by participants before the event:

Date: April 28th-29th (UTC)

Rules:
- Film must be no longer than 30 minutes, but no shorter than 5 minutes.
- Film must be planned, recorded, and edited only during the time of the event.
- Teams must be between 1-10 people.
- Any rule that is broken will cause a disqualification of the person/team.
- Any aircraft or airport in Flight Gear can be used.

Below is the link for the Google form. It is mainly to get the nicknames of all contestants in one place, hence the one question asking you for your nickname. Contestants can join the event up to the day of the event, but may not get a vote in deciding the final dates and rules.

Well, since no one registered, I am deciding to cancel the event. If there is ever enough interest at a later date, I will consider trying this event again.
