np

Apologies everyone -- the snow knocked out the power this morning, and killed my router -- it's now replaced, and the server is up and running again.

Kind Regards,

Hi

I'd gladly switch to itpns.ddns.net but it seems channel creation is not allowed.

mumble.zenserv.fr is even worse: no channel creating and prearranged sub-sub-sub-level channel for airfields.
Can we have a simple mumble server with an ATC channel and free to create sub-channel inside it for active ATCs?

itpns.ddns.net does have channel creation, but there was a permission messed up, I just fixed it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Josh

As will allfex, I do not allow every user to create a permanent, it could cause bad intentions.

If you have a workshop you use often (as I do when collaborating with other devs), let me know, and I can add it, or an ATC channel you will be using often.

Kind Regards,
Josh

Can I ask for a 2 day permanent channel to host my MP-event?

Server outage due to power lines recycled on my street. It's back up now.

Kind Regards,
Josh

PS: the server is set to autostartup after power failure and mumble runs as a service so no user login is required. Therefore, it should go up automatically always.

alternatives?? oh geez...

discord, fgcom, teamspeak, etc, etc, etc...

fgcom is built into flightgear and i think it does PTT but since i don't MP, i haven't played with it...

My $0.02: discord and teamspeak are proprietary; while most people don't seem to have a problem with that, some do, and I don't think this would be a good fit for a community around *the* open-source flightsim. Besides, discord is quite heavy on hardware resources, especially the web client (which, I believe would be more acceptable to many users than a full-blown proprietary desktop application), which makes it a bit of a problem for users whose hardware is only barely sufficient to run FG smoothly (and even if you have processing power to spare, you will probably want to dedicate as much of it as possible to FG itself).

FGCom, I have absolutely no opinion on this one, and frankly haven't really used it yet because everyone seems to be on mumble anyway. If it's technically up to the task, then sure, but I suspect there's a reason why people seem to prefer mumble. One obvious downside of being integrated into FG is that when your client goes down, so does voice comm - which is probably OK for pilots, because when FG crashes you're not flying anymore anyway, but fo ATC, it would probably be annoying to see their client crash (or even just fat-finger the "close" button) and immediately lose radio comm as well.

Zenserv

Postby icare38 » Mon Apr 02, 2018 2:06 pm

Hi,
I'm sorry about the zenserv controversy.

Here is some information about it:

First, it is designed to be compatible with FGExtend, witch allows to contact ATC in a very realistic way by selecting correct frequency on COM1.
So, static channels arrangement is required.
FGcom, will you say ?
This is exactly the idea, BUT with an audio quality making it usable...
Subchannels Approach, Tower, Ground allows multi controllers ATC sessions in a single airport.
If not suitable for your session, you can use only Tower or Approach.

Second, anyone can create a temporary channel at TEMP level.

Last, i always create wise permanent channels on request.

Contact : FGExtend at mississipi.fr

Best regards.
