Hi everyone,

First off thanks to all pilots who participated in the last leg. It was a fun event, despite the not so good weather at Queestown. Everyone showed proper piloting skills to establish them on final but Israel had an FDM bug which made him launch off the runway and Jwocky had 2 Crashes (One during the descent and another during final).

This time the airport we would be flying to is Samos in Greece

About the Airport:

Samos International Airport (also known as Aristarchos) (IATA: SMI, ICAO: LGSM) is an airport on Samos Island, Greece.
The airport is named after Aristarchos of Samos, an ancient astronomer and mathematician, and lies within 5 km from the nearby town of Pythagorio. The airport features a single short runway serving both arrivals and departures. The airports surroundings leave little room for error or mistake on the behalf of the pilots – with nearby mountains and sea at the end of the short runway. There are often strong Meltemi winds blowing from the north during the summer months which further contribute to the difficulty of the landing.

1600 meters runway ? Hmmm, it is challenge. I will try sometime.

Short runway, low approach. But not as interesting an approach as the above visual approach

I performed night flight from Dubrovnik to Samos, default STAR generated by FG route manager is pretty dangerous. Landing with 20 tons FOB without any trouble. Then take off and fly to Skiathos. Default STAR, Landed with 13 tons FOB, I used only half of the runway length.

I used the visual approach chart which I posted on the jabberwocky forum for my approach, it is very easy to see why you do a circling approach when you see how close the mountains and turkish border are...

What a nice challenge, crazy airport and approach especially with winds from mountains
Very bumpy even in light winds like in Madeira, and quite a lot of Windshift even shear to anticipate
To top it all , do it with a broken layer close to minima, nice menu
