The Festival of FlightGear, Fall '16

Postby elgaton » Fri Dec 04, 2015 8:24 pm

This is the thread to discuss everything related to the Fall 2016 edition of the Festival of FlightGear.

Fall 2016 edition: November 5th and 6th, 2016 (FSWeekend 2016)
Time: All weekend Sat 00:00-Sun 23:59 UTC

---
The Festival of FlightGear is a biannual "fly-in" event taking place in Spring and Fall:
  • the Spring edition is held in March in a region outside Europe;
  • the Fall edition is held in Europe and coincides with the FSWeekend "real world event" at Lelystad.

This first post will be the only one containing up-to-date information about the Festival and will be updated to provide you with links to the latest airport charts/ground networks/Route Manager files/helpful resources for the Fall 2016 edition only.
---
Festival repository
I have created a repository to store OpenRadar files/ground networks/Route Manager files - you can find it here. Pilots and ATCs are invited to install its contents before participating (see the instructions in the README file within).
---
Flight/ATC planning:
Pilots and controllers are invited to register their flight plans/sessions at Lenny's website.
---

We will use the official NATS charts - please download and consult them!

FYI, I did all of NI in WED recently (end of October, IIRC.) Assuming WS3.0 comes in time for the UK FESTIVAL, any chance for them to get into TerraSync, or do I have to ask beg Elgagon to make them wih TerraGear for a custom scenery?

Right, Let's start thinking about a Spitfire/Hurricane Flyby over EGLL as the opening event!

'mm... would Biggin Hill not be better, since spitfires actually flew there? Lovely idea, mate.

The thing about Biggin Hill is that it is pretty well developed in FG (as it is in real life) and so it doesn't look much like it would have done back in the days of Spitfires/Hurricanes. But there are still some UK airfields that have not changed that much (especially in FG). One example would be Middle Wallop (EGVP). It wouldn't take all that much custom scenery to make an airfield like this look like it did back in the day.

Something is telling me we should do a vRIAT at RAF Fairford as a sort of minigame...

Perhaps we could have a race on the Isle of Man?

Quick thought I had on file pooling in preparation for this event.

If airports are being upgraded with WED to create or improve ground nets, I would encourage to place the apt.dat files in the repo as well. It will enable ATC-pie users, if any interested by the festival or later service at those airports, to use their ground control and taxiing tools. :-)
Moreover, any kind of background setup (images and drawing specs) can of course similarly be shared between them.

RAF Fairford happens to be a Space Shuttle TAL site... so you can have a quick transatlantic fly-in.
