KSUU CHALLENGE/GAME RULES:
Operation Red Flag (OPRF, formerly KSUU Crew) is interested in aerial games of strategy using military aircraft. While we understand that FG is not a flight simulator geared toward war or aggression, we appreciate developing the flight, strategy, and decision-making skills that are honed through these types of challenges. The aim of KSUU Crew's efforts is to ensure that military aviation novices and aficionados have a space to collaborate, engage with each-other, and use military aviation assets in tactical environments WITHOUT negatively impacting the FG experience of those who are not so-inclined.
General rules:
- No engaging non-players or civilian aircraft. Be polite, courteous, and respectful of their desire not to participate in our challenges. Exception: When protecting controlled airspace, at the request of a tower controller, it is ok to engage hostile military aircraft if they are threatening civilian aviators.
Participants must use damage-modeled aircraft. No personal mods to damage, weapons, avionics or other systems that can affect the fairness of the sim are allowed.
NO FUEL FREEZE. You must manage your fuel not only for the fight, but also for the trip home. Waste all your fuel flying around, and no burners for your run back to base! Makes the strategy more interesting!
No "quitting" to quickly get home to reload. Honor system here, as we all know how FG can crash. However, people will notice if you always seem to "crash" after you use all your weapons. Go home, reload, rejoin the fight.
Air-to-air and carrier refueling is allowed.... but you are not safe while doing so... so do it at your own risk. You are only safe when on the ground at your home base or auxiliary field.
Splashed aircraft may respawn at either their primary or ancillary field. This allows you some strategy options and also prevents camping to a certain degree.
You should avoid joining MP until you are ready to launch, but must join before you are wheels up.
Any maps/radar/etc are allowed to be used. Consider it like having an AWACS in the air supporting your team, and an AOC providing/analyzing real-time battle info and passing it to warfighters.
A hit is a hit, even if FG crashed and you were stuck suspended in the air.
No shooting aircraft with their wheels on the ground.
For Capture the Flag:
- The target is the tower on the primary base. You must screenshot the tower, in a high enough resolution to see it clearly.
You must then declare that you have screenshot of the tower in MPChat.
You must successfully return to your home-base AND LAND without being splashed.
First team to do so wins. Upload your screenshot (and any bragging you and your team want to do) to the forum and be declared champions!
- Teams are even numbers of light AC, but with one extra player on the OPFOR team who can select a bomber aircraft (of any kind, so long as both teams agree).
Target will be picked by the OPFOR team, and should be one of the DCA bases. OPFOR will NOT be required to communicate which base is the target. THis will force DCA to prioritize both bases for DCA.
If the bomber delivers its bomb, that airfield is no longer in play for the DCA. They must use their other field.
An overflight with a screenshot is acceptable for AC that do not have bomb capabilities in sim. Successful bomb delivery must be announced in MPChat.
If the bomber is stopped before it bombs its target, DCA team wins. If it bombs but cannot get home safely, it is a draw. If it bombs and gets home, OPFOR wins.

If you want to organize a meet-up of military aircraft (all nations/models welcome), need help with a particular air-frame or process (we have experts... not me, though), or have any other wish/issue, then message Raider1 or email raider1 at rs-emergency.com. Likewise, if you are one of the regulars out of KSUU and want to be on an email thread, bump a message to the same.
ABOUT KSUU CREW:
KSUU Crew is nothing but a bunch of us who fly out of KSUU (Travis AFB, California). All are welcome to hang out, take screen-shots, fly formations, etc. While we fly primarily military hardware, all are welcome...
