Isle of Man. Midnight Pumpkin Ride. Oct. 31

Postby LesterBoffo » Tue Sep 30, 2014 5:24 pm

The starting area in Douglas on the Isle of Man is directly opposite a large cemetery. Wouldn't it make for an interestingly spooky FG event on All Hallows Eve? Rembrandt enabled and with parts of the route suitably under illuminated? We have a number of bikes that can be headlight equipped and even with Rembrandt off it would make for a bone chilling experience.

Who's in for a night-time adventure on motorcycles? Hot mulled wine and pumpkin cakes at the end of the ride at The Ginger Hall Hotel, or the Old Braddan Church.

Friday evening through Saturday morning. Oct 31st-Nov 1st, be there and be ready to ride.

Unless you plan on making the pumpkin yourself, no, no pumpkins to ride.

If you would like to join there is the Vespa it's easy to use and it's pumpkin orange.

I've been improving the ambiance of the open field of the cemetery.

You seem to not understand. This is a FG motorcycle event, not a pumpkin event.

I do, but it would still be cool to make a pumpkin thats like a pumpkin on wheels, or even pumpkin-car and pumpkin-ufo.

Is it just me or does one of the pumpkins in the first screenshot seem to have a really menacing smile on its "face". ;)

I don't think so...but it should have one! Do you carve jack-o-lanterns in Sweden?

They have begun appearing just the last two decades or so. Traditionally we have not had Halloween in Sweden, but have had a much more solemn one, All Saints' Day on a different date (the Saturday between 31 Oktober and 6 November) in practice for deceased ancestors. The evening of that day you could sometimes find candles and a bit more decorations in the cemeteries. Halloween came in the 1990's inspired by US movies and television series (but why not half a century earlier?) and of course as an excuse for stores to sell a bit more. ;)

Speaking of pumpkins, how about a Git themed Halloween poster with two gentlemen in jeans and T-shirts, one with the text "master" and one with the text "develop" and one pumpkin under each ones arm and no heads.* ;)

* In essence branches with detached heads... ;)

I think I got my idea for this event from riding the Yamaha in FG with Rembrandt on. My rider figure's helmet is selected out when in #1 view and the shadow shows a headless rider. It was pretty creepy when I first noticed it. The pumpkin I carved with alpha masking looks a lot like Mr. Oogie Boogie from the Nightmare Before Christmas.

Here's the needed changes to the scenery at the Douglas IoM TT course for the Halloween event. One should note that the included .stg file is just a stub and will require you to manually copy and paste everything below the " ## Halloween stuff" entry in the zip's stub file to the extant stg. file number 2876426 in the w010n050/w005n054 folder in 'objects'.

The new models go into the path Models/EGNS/halloween.

There will be a new Vespa with Rembrandt lighting, both geared and CVT controlled shifting made available with this improvement

Best effects are with setting the time to evening and having Rembrandt working, although the effects are visible without Rembrandt. The enclosed cemetery is from Detlef's Hangar from his earlier release, and is interactive with the new FG Walker feature he created which the new Vespa, ( and I believe the Yamaha YG-1 is also..?) are compatible with. Give it a try you might get locked in the cemetery but I did include the weird key in the download.

The Jeep from Detlef's hangar also works as does the VW Kombi I recently made available.

You could probably crash the party with the Crash Hauler, too bad it doesn't shoot a stream of flaming skulls.

..and here's a little history about the Isle of Man's Hop tu naa, the original Celtic new-year celebration many believe is part of the original Samhain and Hogmanay celebrations of the ancient British Isles..
